Thanks for calling me intelligent, but I truly wasn't trying to be smug or ignorant. I really do think the White Stripes are one of the worst bands ever. Not asking for you to agree with my opinion, just stating mine.

My big question is how do you put the White Stripes into the same category as those other bands?

I hate phish, but I respect they're not the worst band ever since 'some of my best friends' used to think they were great.

So that said, my vote is for the mighty Starship.

Do you rule them separate from Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship?  Wait, they're pretty bad too.

Also, if you want to talk about a lack of technical proficiency, the Sex Pistols have to be way up there.

Whoever mentioned the Beatles in this thread should be hung. I don't care about opinions when it comes to the Beatles. They are the best band ever to walk the earth. Period.

By the way, Josh from 9:30 is the man.
To agree with you, The Beatles definitely should NOT be included here.  I'm not a big Beatles fan by any stretch of the imagination, but respect is due.

I also forgot the Kottonmouth Kingz.  I saw them open up for somebody for free, & I wanted my fuckin' money back.

I would include Evanescence, but shorty (the lead singer) has an OK voice, so I'll let them slide.  Even though their band & songs suck ass.  But that's personal opinion, so whatever.

BTW, The Rolling Stones are better than The Beatles.  We can start a thread about that if you wish.

2nd vote for Rednex as well.  Their musical legacy was "Cotton Eye Joe".  Nuff said . . . .

Bottom line is that White Blood Cells is an amazing record and Seven Nation Army an amazing single. Jack really hit his stride in terms of songwriting, etc with those, he's gotten a little bloated and self indulgent since then.  Live he and bigger sister Meg play without a set list, so theres more spontaneity then your average band.  When Jack is on the White Stripes put on an killer mind numbingly great show.

Did you really just have the nerve to mention OutKast in the same breath/post as 311 & Journey????? Someone please shut this fuckin' thread down.  It's over . . . .

I'm sorry, you must be lost.  The "best song ever" thread is elsewhere.

Ohh Puuuulllleeeaazzee..

This is easily one of the most annoying threads not started by someone who (a) did something stupid in the club and is bitching about it or (b) showed up two days too late to buy tickets to a show and is complaining about it ever.

First off, you do a disservice to say "Worst band ever" thread and then decide half way through the posts "well, what I really menat was...." but nonetheless, to the rest of you wanna be Rhett's, if you have to take the entire collection of The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Zep, Rush or Ugly Kid Joe with you to a deserted island, not a single one of you would take Ugly Kid Show, so shut the hell up.  It's as stupid to say that some band is the worst band ever as it is to say that they are the best band ever.  Congratulations, you said something obnoxious about something most others revel in and you can now submit your resume to Pitchfork because you have earned indie cred.  Pathetic.

And here I was hoping that fatherhood would make Rhett a little less Rhett like and here we are one week later with the biggest "I want to be the next Rhett on the board" competition in years.

And to the boardie that said Journey - you and me, McPherson Square at sun down. Come alone.

Signs that you are a "worst band":

 1.  Critique the pillars of your genre (metal bands dissing Zep or Sabbath).
 2.  Changing name/personnel to "make it" (SR-71, Lincoln Park).
 3.  Covering someones well known song, destroying it.
 4.  Dissing your peers as if you are somehow better.
 5.  Incompetence live.  Sure the studio may be where you (or the session musicians you use) work best, but if you can not pull it off live, strike against you.
 6.  Time from release to the cutout bin/$1 bin at the used CD stores is under a year.
 7.  Genre jumping to get play.
 8.  Being a clone of some other band's sound.
 9.  Just being bad.

Submitting evidence to back up my pick of Lockup as worst band ever:

Looks like the guy put the whole album song by song on youtube but I can't see anyone getting through the 5 I posted.

Early front-runner for post of the week . . . .

 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I think my man from a couple posts earlier was onto some nice criteria.  On some glass half-full type shit, I could say Wes Borland was almost average guitarist on his best day.  In spite of that generous assessment, I cannot conjure up an argument to defend the artistic merit of Limp Bizkit.  I have nothing . . .
