 Got a couple more criteria

Claiming the bass line you lifted is one note different than the original.
Having the hit breakthrough single ghost written.
Listing one's own band as best album, etc of the year.

the last two are in honor of SR-71 since i'm pretty sure that Butch Walker actually wrote that first single of theirs after the band delivered their album to the record company. I  remember ROTFLMAO seeing the bands leader list his band as several of his own top picks in a Baltimore paper.
I would assume your first one is attributed to a certain Mr. Van Winkle? haha [/b]
And I quote,

"Nah. Nah. Ours is competely different.  Our bassline goes 'dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun . . TING!  The ting at the end makes it completely different.  Yeah."

 What a bitch . . . . LOL

A piece of useless trivia, I once worked with the guy responsible for nicking the "Under Pressure" riff when he was DJing for Vanilla Ice (aka Deshay as in "check out the hook while Deshay revolves it").  He DJed for both Vanilla Ice AND Usher at the beginning of their careers (and left both) as well as putting out an album on A&M that tanked, poor guy was like the Jason Everman of the R&B/Hip-hop genre HAHA

well i really hate these threads, but after a show on friday night - i was moreso curious.

i saw zebrahead open for unwritten law.  i was curious if zebrahead was for real. the whole show consisted of a lot of cursing, yelling for a moshpit, assigning people to the moshpit (monitoring it, etc). and the lead singer taking his shirt off and proudly displaying his chest. i think there was some 'singing' in there maybe with some songs.

i was thinking it was god-awful, and luckily my date agreed with me. for those wondering why i went to this show, only to slam it - said date ended up with an extra ticket and me more interested in seeing the guy and knowing his fav. band was unwritten law went along. the date was f'ing incredible, so i suddenly cared less that his fav band was unwritten law   :D

oddly enough - with 3 openers - unwritten law's set had to be shortened because at midnight apparently the gramercy theater closes. and somewhere in UL's set, i kinda started liking them, only to remember "seeing red" used to make me want to hurt someone  :p

Third Eye Blind isn't that bad.  They're a group that writes somewhat cheesy power-pop songs.  They are what they are.  They look immaculate compared to oh, say, Fallout Boy???

There's got to be a term for:

"Something you liked, then you grew to hate it.  Then your hatred became so strong you question if you ever really liked it in the first place."

Come on!  There's got to be some bored people on here with English degrees.  The above feeling is how I feel about U2.  Oddly enough, it's also how I feel about "The Simpsons."  I hate both.

However, I'll defend Limp Bizkit.  I'm not saying they were great but they were a McDonald's kind of band.  Lowest common denominator.  Nothing memorable.  And they actually mattered for a couple of years.  I think you are confusing your hatred for Fred Durst for hatred of Limp Bizkit.  Limp Bizkit's last album was so punk.  No singles.  No promo.  (No sales, either.)  But if you're going to stick to your guns, I admire that.

Linkin Park are far worse than Limp Bizkit.  "Nookie" is a fun song to crank in a convertible.

Also, someone like Billy Corgan or Lars Ulrich is a FAR bigger douchebag than Fred Durst.

Any further bashing of U2 has a strong possiblity of ending in a violent barrage of water balloons coming at your person.  We'll call it "Monday Bloody Monday."

oh, and Rush.  I don't even think what they produce is music.  It's so awful on so many levels.

Hey, I saw the REHERSAL show for Zoo TV at the very same place where you are going to see The Police in a couple of weeks.  I thought "Achtung Baby" was great.  Then the milk spoiled.

"Achtung Baby" was fucking garbage, I still find it hard to believe that a band that released "Boy" "October" and "War" had the balls to even attach their name to that piece of shit.

Lock that quote up for the time capsule.

That's the problem with subjective threads like these.  There is a difference between a band just being bad and hating them.  I don't like Bob Dylan.  Don't get it.  Never will.  That doesn't mean I don't think he has some sort of talent and I do understand why others might enjoy his music.

On the other hand, Limp Bizkit/Fred Durst is and will always be a complete no-talent assclown.  I'm guessing the reason his last album didn't sell jack was because no record company was willing to promote it and lose their ass doing so.

As far as being less of a douchebag than Billy or Lars, that's not exactly something I'd put on my resume.  Come to think of it, have those 3 ever been in the same room together?  Their combined energies would create a perfect storm of douchebaggery.
