Le Tigre
« on: November 11, 2003, 03:09:00 pm »
Okay, bought my first Le Tigre CD, and "Shred A" sounds like Mary's Danish.

Has anyone been to a show?  Wondering about hitting the Sunday, Nov. 23rd show.

1 B and 2 Ts  and you have it.

I dont find too much enjoyable about Le Tigre.  It may have something to do with girls singing rock that i never totally got into.  they are ok live, but the Yeah Yeah Yeahs blow em out.

i do like Cibo Matto though  :)

sonickteam, sonickboom in your ass!  Le Tigre effing rocks the wave.  They started the wave.  Whatev to you about girls singing rock.  Sleater-Kinney? PJ Harvey? Yeah, that's what i thought.

Anywho, Bags, i love Le Tigre and am going to the show.  i think if you like to dance at shows and you don't mind super super left politics being spewed at you (i kinda fit the latter, but the degree to which i identify with the former supercedes it) you'll kick it.

o and if you're uncomfortable around homosexuals, you might not want to show. (but i'm pretty sure you ain't)

Well, Sonick, we may have found our divergence.  Does this include Sleater-Kinney?

I am ON it.  Excellent.  I don't mind leftie politics, and I love to dance at shows.  No prob with the homo contingent (I take it we're talking women?).  The only thing that ever puzzles me there are some of the haircuts (one Melissa Etheridge show I went to at Wolftrap had me fully aghast at some of the 'dos)

Thanks, Broadkat, exactly what I was looking for.

i knew i shouldve clarified that.  Sleater-Kinney is good.  dont really have any of thier Cds though, but i wouldnt ask it to be turned off.  PJ Harvey is a goddess. i will give kat that.
Le Tigre, Bikini Kill, Lucious Jackson, Liz Phair arent really my thing.
i can dig Chicks on Speed, Peaches, and Bratmobile though.

maybe when i saw them, they put too much emphasis on the fact that they were girls, like i couldnt tell.  either way , i am not hating on any of them  :)

No prob.  Yeh, i mean wimyn.  I think the guitarist is like the lesbian equivalent of Pamela Anderson.  She has her own calendar!  That said, there'll probably be a goodly amount of queerboys there, too.  But yeah, be prepared for mulletcity cause i hear that they're back in even with the ny scenesters.

Okay Sonick, here's my question -- have you been to a Sleater-Kinney show?  They rock so hard, they easily blow away 97% of bands I've seen.  And that's a lot.  Absolutely kick ass, and that ain't by no chick band standards, either.

I dig Luscious Jackson, but have never seen them live, and personally I don't get the P.J. Harvey worship (though I'm not disparaging it -- I just don't see it).

And Liz Phair was amazing before she sold out, but she apparently couldn't perform back then either.

But I gotta say, I love when there's a chick fronting a power pop band.  You should explore, Sonick, explore....It ain't all Lilith Fair or GRRL Rock.  There's lots in between.  <img src="http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/dancefool.gif" alt=" - " />

gotcha. but see, i think i would rather stick to lilith fair.
   hahha.
I DID used to like Jewel, and i listen to Fiona Apple all of the time, and Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Slean, Beth Orton, and Kristin Hersh.
There is just a little something with the girl yelling voice that i have never gotten into.
its ok, i cant get into every kind of music on earth i suppose.

and no, i have not ever seen SK but i didnt ever say anything bad about them either. dont you worry.

N.B. Now I'm just following up for the sake of good dialogue rather than proliferation of strife.  Bear that in mind whilst inferring tone.

sonick, you really ought to own SK's One Beat.  It's hypercritical. and then if you like what you hear, especially if you like its merits  qua  album, you should also check out All Hands on the Bad One and Dig Me Out.

now when you say you like bratmobile, are we talking new, post-donnas-inspiration "girls get busy" bratmobile, or, like original "cherry bomb" bratmobile? don't get me wrong, i'm into both, but if it's the latter that you're into, it seems paradoxical to me that you would not like bikini kill.

o, and please don't ever group luscious jackson with any of the other bands we are discussing. ever. again.  they just hypersuck.
