Most embarassing first concert / concert experience
« on: September 09, 2004, 09:05:00 am »
I'm wondering if anyone's first concert was an act that is simply embarassing to admit to, even if it is anonymously on the Internet.  I know I have mine.

Milli Vanilli, Young MC and Seduction at Baltimore Arena (back when it was the Civic Center).  What can I say, I was the only teenage boy who was surrounded by chicks.  We went in a van, and I was the only dude, with 6 girls from school.

 There I admitted it.

Embarrassingly, my first concert was by a British artist. Although technically, the first band I saw were the openers, and I don't think they were British.

this is a funny topic, because most people i know haver AWFUL first shows.
Mine was Aerosmith and Guns N Roses at the Boston Garden in 1988. I know, those bands sound lame, but in 1988, Aerosmith just started thier comeback and were still rocking, and GNR just came out.  The show is still, to this day, one of the most electrifying shows I've seen.

My girlfriends was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles though.  does that beat Menudo?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is hilarious, but I'm not sure that anything can compare to my first concert, when I was eight, mind you.

 Michael Bolton
 w/Celine Dion

My parents dragged me there, I swear...

I can honestly say that night changed my life.  It was the night I finally found out what good music should be and it is not what I was hearing when Bolton sang 'Wind Beneath My Wings'.  I still wake up at night, turn to my bird, and say "I had the Michael Bolton dream again.'

Barry Manilow - Pine Knob

The venue's in Michigan and my parents dragged me to it.  All I remember is that he brought some chick on stage and was wearing white pants.  I must have been four years old.

First concert Prince Purple Rain tour
Second concert U2 Unforgettable Fire tour
Neither one embarassing at all.  The U2 show blew me away and taught me the power of rock.  I can honestly say I can't really think of any I've been to that I'd be too embarassed about.  Well, I'm slightly embarassed about seeing Billy Idol at the Pat Center in '86 or '87 so.  I felt pretty lame.

 *edit*
I just dug up the set list for this show...pretty cool.  It was in April 1985:

11 O'clock Tick Tock, I Will Follow, Seconds, MLK, The Unforgettable Fire, Wire, Sunday Bloody Sunday, The Cry-> The Electric Co., A Sort Of Homecoming, Bad, October, New Year's Day, Pride (In The Name Of Love)
encores: Knocking On Heaven's Door, Gloria, 40
