interesting from an interview with Pete Rock

What can we expect from you at the Movement festival?
I got memories of Detroit, so I got something up my sleeve. Just look forward to real hip-hop and real music â?? whatever the crowd calls for. Basically, I got a whole hour and a half dedicated to [the great Detroit producer] Dilla.

so didn't really feel it for the part of Pete Rock's set I caught...

The highlights were Egyptian Lover who rocked the wheels of steel, Kraftwerk and some live 808.  DBX was mind blowing.  Enjoyed Sonikus's boy Terrence Parker, rocked it last night and for the bit I caught him tonight, dropped Jay Dee "Plastic Dreams" into his set.  Didn't really spend to much on the main stage, ambient music in the bright sunshine not that interesting when the techno be bangin' in the underground. Caught only the beginning and end , but  Moby  was partying like it was 1993.  Solid get the crowd pumped rave anthems, started with "Good Life" and ended with "Thousand"

Was disappointed by Newcleus who started out strong but faded as their set went on,  to bad they didn't perform live with instruments instead of using a laptop.  Wasn't really feelin Joris Vroon sounded like an extended remix of a couple songs.

Day two...

The highlight of the day and probably the festival was Carl Craig live.  Legendary tracks performed live with additional tasteful funky keyboard and jazzy saxophone flourishes.  Much like DBX/Daniel Bell on day one, it was like watching a musicians record live in the studio.  Add those to the mind blowing experience of seeing Inner Cityl ive in 2001. Now I have to see Model 500 live...

Biggest surprise of the day was Ectomorph who a really warped version of Kraftwerk meets Old School Electro.  The Cool Kids were a lot of fun as well...

The rest of the day was spent enjoying interludes of pounding techno in the underground and funky house from the main stage.  And continuing to be disappointed with most of what I heard on the Beatport stage.  I guess that I just don't get minimal or what most of the DJs are doing.  There is annoying rhythmic pattern that always seems to present almost if it's the same track over and over.  The part of Hearthobs set I caught was the most enjoyable.  Really didn't get a kick of Magda, sure she's got a nice smile, but the portion of her set I caught just didn't anything for me.  Caught a brief part of Hawtin's set but it was so crowded around the tent I couldn't be bothered.

As much as I like pant fluttering pounding techno, I'm finding hard to take the beats for more than 30-45 minutes or so.  Am in general enjoying the house DJ...

day three stick a fork in my i'm done....

highlights of the day Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts doing funky techno house what ever you want to call it, nice fun way to start the day. Willing to be Guillaume and whoever the Coutu Dumonts are, would be fun in a club.  Guillaume dropped a little "Brick House" in the middle of his set.

Cobblestone Jazz another fine example of the blending of electronic backing beats and flourishes of live keyboards.  Most excellent and not to jammy...

Pleasant surprise of the day was that there was hope for Beatport stage artists who could deliver on tunes that actually had a groove to them and not more of the clicky Minimal nonsense that just don't have any soul to it.  Enjoyed  what Mathias Kaden and Davide Squillace had to offer.

Which is a good thing since one call only handle so much slammin techno in four days and clearly i'm to old to appreciate the "Ghetto Tech" which was on offer all day.  everytime i wander over that it was overly loud, completely distorted, rapid fire blah.

Kevin Saunderson delivery a workshop in electronic data music as one of the closing festival highlighss...
