In French Dispatch, it just seems like a way to take 3 short films and call them one conclusive whole. We do not care about anyone who works at that publication. There are no stakes. We are not given enough time with them to understand why we should care about them
that is an accurate take, I really didn't care for anyone in the FD...don't even think I finished watching
unlike movies like the Royal T, Steve Z or Rushmore where you really wanted to learn about the characters

Loved the Holdovers. I laughed, I cried. Everyone go see it.

Why not?

8 bucks for movies before 11am. Can't beat that.

Beats the $28 each my wife and daughter paid for the Beyonce movie tickets.

Same, to some degree. But my kid really seems to enjoy seeing movies on the big screen. I think this is the first time we saw a movie on the big screen that was *my* choice in like 15 years or so.

It's nice to have a kid who is of the age where she appreciates at least some of the entertainment that I like. No more animated films that I would fall asleep in the theater despite trying my best not to and thank goodness she never liked comic book based movies or Star Wars shit (sorry NKOTB, I hope I don't lose bestie status for saying that.)

Wouldn't that be against the rules?

Well this year's Xmas morning movie selection was ...Poor Things.

It seems like this movie could have easily been rated NC-17. But it wasn't, so in we went.

Emma Stone for the win. An unsettling yet ultimately satisfying experience.

My kid commented that she wasn't overwhelmed by the proceedings, but she didn't get the point of the movie.

I posited that I thought the point of the movie was that men shouldn't try to control women.

Her reply was "But who doesn't already believe that?"

Oh what a bubble she lives in.

Maybe we should have seen the wrasslin movie or the boat movie instead.

I liked Killers of the Flower Moon more than Barbie, but less than Poor Things and the Holdovers.

So the Oscar for best musician acting in Killers of the Flower Moon goes to whom?

Jason Isbell
Pete Yorn
Sturgill Simpson
Terry Allen
Jack White
Charlie Musselwhite

I’m watching the Netflix documentary about the making of We are the World that just came out.

On the car ride home, I was telling my daughter about it. There was one part where Paul Simon looked up to Kenny Loggins and said “If they dropped a bomb on this place, John Denver would be right back on top,” I told this story to my daughter and she said, “The only name I recognize in that story is Obama. Is this song famous or something?”

Then there was another story where Ray Charles needed to use the bathroom and Stevie Wonder showed him where it was and someone said “”It was the blind leading the blind.” And my daughter asked “Wait, Stevie Wonder is blind?"

I don't get the Obama reference?
