Hair Cuttery

A few thoughts just passed through my head while getting a haircut:
 
 1) None of the hairdos on any of the women working today inspired confidence in their ability.
 
 2) Why do they always slick my hair back and send me out into the world?  And why am I too nice to say "Please don't slick my hair back"?
 
 3) Why are they playing Christmas music?
 
 Is there a hipper place to get a hair cut that's also cheap?  Where do you kids get your cuts?

I bought a $20 set of clippers a couple years ago and now just buzz all my hair off once every 6-8 months.
 
 He probably doesn't mean that cheap though.

I'd rather not pay more than $20, but seeing as I am an adult nowadays (crushing, I know), I'm open to suggestions, even if it is a bit more.  Can't hurt to know.

I started a simliar thread several years ago, and a couple of people pointed me to Bang on U Street, and now near the MCI Center. Though I think my criteria was a "trendy yet reasonably priced cut", rather than "cheap". Their men's haircut has risen from $25 to $33, but I'm hooked.

I was a Bubbles man for many years. Had the same haircutter for 10+ years. Finally, I just said to hell with it, bought some clippers, and buzz every month or so.

My advice would be to simply stay away from anywhere with attempt to be a funny play on words involving hair.

Why not go to a simple barber shop.  Find one run by the Koreans.  Not only do they give a good cut on the cheap (I never pay more than $13), you get the straight razor cut on the neck and edges...and a nice head and neck massage to boot.

When I'm not shaving my head myself, I go to the Asian lady on the corner from my apt who charges $10.
 
 I tip 20% or $2, sometimes $3 if she entertains me with a wacky Asian story.
 
 No happy ending.

I second Bang.  I'd stay away from Bubbles, they wreaked havoc on my hair, but I am a girl and it is probably harder to mess my hair up than yours.  PR Partners Friendship Heights branch is also good, but probably a little pricey.

speaking of hip hair, i've been thinking of getting my hair cut to resemble will reid ('86)... i wouldn't have normally made this decision but ever since i woke up after partying one night with a patch on the bottom of my head that's considerably shorter than the rest, i'd like a new look so i won't have to keep wearing it up.
 
 my mom works in a salon, so i've never had a real haircut from anyone but her. i'm wondering if i went to hair cuttery or that bang place and asked for a girlier:

Last time I went I tipped $30 on a $180 hair color...I hope that's ok because now I need to go back for a cut.
