 its.....interesting.....

  Orson

 from  CD Times

Like the Scissor Sisters before them, L.A. five-piece Orson are attempting to crack the UK before their home country, and with an album as good as Bright Idea, itâ??s no wonder there is a furious bidding war erupting between a host of UK major labels to sign them.

With a sharp, contemporary look, Orson grab the limelight even before their music â?? a heady mix of rock, pop and retro soul - is heard. So itâ??s a good thing that the punchy, quirky and undeniably commercial songs on Bright Idea more than live up to the hype.

Hopefully we'll see the new Von Bondies CD tentatively titled "Love, Hate, and then there's you" which I hope they keep because it's a great title...

Solo record from Idlewild's singer

 Roddy's solo project!

Check out Roddy's solo project at www.robbywoomble.com His debut solo album will be released by Pure Records on July 24th of this year!

Here's a bit of info from the site, but check it for more:

Five of the eleven songs that make up 'My Secret is my Silence' were written with Roddy's Idlewild band mate and co-songwriter, guitarist ROD JONES, two with the album's producer (and BBC radio 2 folk musician of the year 2003) JOHN McCUSKER, two with childhood friend and singer in Glasgow's alternative folk band Foxface, MICHAEL ANGUS and one with acclaimed borders based folk singer KARINE POLWART. "These are songs that would have never lived with Idlewild, but are still very much a part of me. Being able to write with Rod, and John and Karine and Michael made me feel (for two weeks) like I was part of a new band, and this allowed me to feel free to describe myself in a way I've wanted to for a long time, in a context I was completely comfortable with, and I think it shows"

The album, recorded in South Yorkshire over nine days in March 2006, features a band made up of all the songwriters, as well as drummer DAVID GOW and bassist AILIDH LENNON (who is also Roddy's wife) from the Scottish band SONS AND DAUGHTERS. As well as appearances from some of folk music's most accomplished players, flautist MICHAEL McGOLDRICK, accordionist ANDY CUTTING and guitarist IAN CARR and popular folk singers KARINE POLWART, KATE RUSBY and DAVE BURLAND.

'My Secret is my Silence' is an album full of stories about language and communication, about nature and the people that surround us and make our environment. Inspired as much by the poetry of Robert Frost and George MacKay Brown as by the time Roddy has spent up in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, which has long been the source for many Idlewild songs and albums.

Yeah, the entire album was available to download on the atease message board this morning, but has now been removed.  As tempting as it is, I think I'm gonna wait til the actual cd comes out and listen to it in its entirety.
