Damn, wish i could go to this one

Some of the biggest names in music today will be joining together to honor country rock legend Gram Parsons in two of the most ambitious live events scheduled for Summer 2004. Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons: the two star-studded concerts will take place on July 9, 2004 at the Santa Barbara Bowl and July 10, 2004 at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Norah Jones, Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Raul Malo (Mavericks) and Jim Lauderdale are confirmed to perform. Many more are invited to participate, schedules permitting include: Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, Beck, Emmylou Harris, Ryan Adams, Ben Harper, Starsailor and The Old 97's.

Tickets for Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons will go on sale on Saturday, May 8, 2004. Tickets, with prices starting at $40, will be made available through Ticketmaster.

Polly Parsons, armed with a fearless passion, is organizing Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons thirty years after her father's death. She is recruiting both close friends and ardent fans of her father as well as contemporary artists inspired by his work. Gram did not see boundaries in music and Polly now feels compelled to further his mission, breaking down perceived barriers of age and genre to bring together artists who audiences might not expect to be on the same stage together. This celebration of her father's music has been a lifelong dream for Polly, who was just six years old when her father died at age 26 of a morphine and tequila overdose.

A portion of the proceeds from the concerts will be donated to the Musicians' Assistance Program (MAP), which makes it possible for members of the music industry to receive treatment for drug and alcohol addiction regardless of their financial situation.

House of Blues Concerts and Nederlander West Coast are working jointly to produce the tribute shows at Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara.

Los Angeles-based independent radio station KCRW will be the presenting radio station for both concerts.

Hot Damn indeed - this would be quite cool.
Hmmm...[wondering where the $$ would come from for a second trip to the west coast this summer?!?!?!]

I get random pre-sale announcements from HOB (House of Balls) - I hope I get one for this.

btw - I heard the movie about abusing Gram Parson's corpse starring Johnny Knoxville really sucked.
 Too bad about that.

Man, it just won't be the same when I saw them at Iota with just two banjos and a tin can.

Man, I saw them at the old 9:30 club before opening Iota was ever a thought that crossed some smooth jazz loving rich boys mind; back in the days when Tweedy had a mullet, and his migraines originated from his balls.
