Funny, cos a Lloyd Cole song just came on random from itunes.

But that is a lot of advance notice, plenty of time for the commotions to pull out. [/b]

in case you don't know this new stuff shes doing is very different from her solo stuff and even her throwing muses stuff so be warned - not that its not good, it is, but its basically full on, in your face punk..

Hee hee hee [evil laugh]- we get Wilco & you get Live.

This is probably somewhere else on the board, but I missed it so:

You can stream the new Wilco record for free from their site:

I have the new cd and, while it is quite different from her solo stuff, I don't find it very far removed from the 2003 Muses album, much of which was also very hard & in your face.

yes, it most resembles the 2003 release, which was excellent - Speed and Sleep was my favorite

Has anyone bothered to listen to the new Wilco album?  Any thoughts?  I'm streaming it now, and I'm not sure I have an opinion yet.

I downloaded it off Soulseek and, yes, made an appropriate donation to Just A Fan.

I'm not thrilled with it.  Then again, I'm not an alt-country fan.  I really liked YHF because it was more than just twangyness... it was art at a higher level than the easily catagorized.  I wouldn't really say that about this album-- it's more slow, more country/folky.  But that's my bias.

I feel the same way - I need to give it a few more listens. The last couple of records took a few spins to really grab me also.

I don't hear the country on this one though like chimbleysweep. I think it sounds like YHF - except it's quieter and the great pop melodies (that they hid behind noisy beginnings & endings) aren't as easily picked out.

Can't get it to work here at work, and my pc at home is crashed out.

I'm with you a bit, although I think I'm definitely underwhelmed by it as a whole.  I could definitely do without the absurdly long Spiders (Kidsmoke) and Less Thank You Think (do I really need THAT much buzzing?  I think not).  Tweedy is definitely still on his Sonic Youth trip; the album is much more YHF than anything else.  Something about the songs just doesn't grab me, though.  At least on YHF, the songs underneath the noise were striking, even the super low-key ones (like Kamera or Jesus, Etc.).  I just kind of glossed over this one.  I probably need to listen again while I'm not distracted at work, but my first impression is this is Wilco's weakest...by far.

I can't believe that will make the final record - especially as not the closing track. I kept waiting for SOMETHING to happen - eventually I just skipped ahead.

Overall the entire record sounded much better to me the second time through.

I may miss them in Coachella anyway since I'm going with some big-time Kraftwerk fans.
