But they   are  a Grateful Dead cover band.  Look at this setlist:

 Jam > Help on the Way > Slipknot! > Loser* > Bird Song+ > Loose Lucy+ > Bertha+, Looks Like Rain@, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall@#, West L.A. Fadeaway > Ashes and Glass > Stuff > Morning Dew
 E: Not Fade Away

That's 10 "Dead" songs (counting Dew and NFA).  7 of those are songs Jerry used to sing and 1 of them is an instrumental.  I only see 1 original song here - unless "Stuff" is an actual song, which would make it 2 originals.

I think the naming thing is less about ego and more about marketing. [/b]
bobby has always been the strange one of the band.  for the longest time i thought he was the gay one, because of those horrible short shorts he used to wear in the eighties.  read the article he did a few years back in relix magazine.  he sums up his feelings about being a "cover band" there, i seem to remember.

and about the name.  i feel it is just a spill over from the 'other ones' days of the dead and the need to be called "also known as." for some reason they like to switch it.  i have tour shirts from '04 that say 'bob weir and ratdog' and from '05 that just say 'ratdog.'  plus the fact that bob hates phil lesh, and if they are going to be "phil lesh and friends," then he'll be "bob weir and ratdog."  i'm sure the line up, who does include a member who played in the other ones (which might also have something to do with the name switching) does not care he does it.

oh yeah, and nice set list.  which show?  i know, i know; a true hippy would already know that.

Add that to the list of shows skipping DC.

I heard their new album, wasn't anything to get excited about.

Yeah, I got it off the main page. And no I have no other connection with him other than FOTC. I knew he was a comedian before.

Awkward guy on stage for 45 minutes for 25 bucks? Why not.
