JULY 7 -- The Slickee Boys.

Sorry for the delayed response. I was out of town for the last week.
Well...it pretty much sucked. There were 2 opening acts. The first was Marshall Keith solo. That was pleasant enough. Half acoustic/Half electric. The only Slickee Boys song he did was "You've Got What It Takes". He also did a Stranglers song. I think it was "Duchess", but my memory fails me. I picked up a CD-R he was selling, but haven't listened to it yet.
After his was Mark Noone's latest rockabilly project: The Rhodes Tavern Troubadours. Nothing too exciting, but not bad. They didn't really play long enough for me to form much of an opinion. About 4 songs into their set, it started to rain. Just a slightly annoying rain, but apparently enough for them to stop playing and cover up the equipment.
About 1/2 hour later the rain slowed down and The Slickee Boys came on. They played about 4-5 songs and gave up when it started raining again. They didn't seem to uncover any of the amps or lights when it stopped raining, so the sound was terribly muffled. The only lighting came from the gazebo behind them, so all you could see were their silhouettes.
Most people weren't expecting 2 opening acts, so the evening was getting to be longer than expected. Sitting in the rain and only getting a few Slickee songs was pretty disappointing. With the rain coming, they should have just forgone the openers and gone right to the Slickees.
Be warned that if you drive to Strathmore, you have to park at the Grosvenor Metro station. Note that parking is not free, and you MUST pay with a SmartPass card. You can't pay with cash. That created problems for a bunch of people who weren't aware of that fact.
