Well I love their cd's, but I can't think of a band whose live show I love more at this point in time. Don't know if the Artscape sound system will do them justice like the 9:30 Club sound system does.

Anybody else have an opinion on this question?

As long as we all know who Bungle Bud is, I think we'll be fine.

I love the Drive By Truckers CD's, especially their last two, but live they are even better.  I have seen them three times, most recently at the Recher Theater last December and they were all great shows.  They usually play around three hours too.

Probably won't play nearly that long at Artscape. I'm hoping for a 9:30 date the night before.

drive-by truckers are 10x better than black crowes, they play a blistering (if over-long) live set and they sing southern-rock songs that REALLY sound and feel like the south ...

while most alt-country crooners yearn to have grown up in the great depression, DBT is set firmly in the modern, rural, poor south ... think songs about wal-mart instead of buggies ... easily one of my favorite bands

DBT are also a bunch of corporate sellout whores, taking easy money from a heavily sponsered event in return for a quick set... would not be suprised they'll be playing Dewey Beach, Harrisburg, Grand Rapids, and a variety of Tastefests soon.

What bands sing about wagons? Old Crow Medicine Show? No worse than a Portland band with a fake British accent singing sea shanties.

hope you're joking koz ... more power to them for doing that, more people should hear their music, i'd love to see them break the mainstream

i find it amusing to hear of them being heckled during their shows in the rural south for lines ripping on reagan ... they're a true "populist" band, and quick sets at festivals won't change that ...

i'd rather not go into a dissertation on alt-country and alt-country-rock ... but i'm sure you know that the former genre encompasses many staunch traditionalists who try their best to stick to old-timey and mountain instruments and songs

alt-country-rock, as i understand it, is rock n' roll informed by the spirit of country and roots music (not country music that exists outside of nashville's popular and modern conventions) ... wilco, DBT, and many of the more "popular" alt-country groups would fall into this category, i guess ... while OCMS, sun volt, lyle lovett, etc would be straight-up alt-country

and who ever said anything bad about it? defensive much?
