true ... then i'll continue by saying that the song features a great driving beat, some tasteful gee-tar solos, and edwards' exhausted (not whiny) tone ... and it all comes together to make a great country song

That I can understand. Tho I'll still disagree. Especially when I know that you know better and have an appreciation for the real thing...Say, something like:

  http://www.drivebytruckers.com/mp3s/NeverGonnaChange.mp3

 Now that's a country song

Sorry, I just wouldn't refer to Kathleen Edwards as "country". Now Freakwater, I would.

 10/31 Freakwater, Iota

Excluding Jason & the Scorchers, Freakwater are the primeval "alt-country" band - their 1989 debut album predates by a year Uncle Tupelo's No Depression, the album cited as the cornerstone of the alt-country movement.

Same day as Doves at Sonar. Crooked Fingers were amazing last time I saw em. What to do...

this is by the very minimum of standards a "good country song", i would consider it "very very good":

It's like sending a text message to describe the Mona Lisa.

And some of the best songs EVER have questionable lyrics.

 Exhibit A:
Squeeze me baby, till the juice runs down my leg.
The way you squeeze my lemon, I'm gonna fall right out of bed.
[/b]
while on the topic of questionable lyrics from zeppelin tunes, how about every lyric from 'whole lotta love'?

dammit! i plan on seeing richard thompson that night at the birchmere. i've been yearnin' fer some freakwater, last timei saw them was probably 1997.

regarding kathleen edwards, she's not as good as lucinda williams or laura cantrell, but she's a hell of a lot better than sheryl crow. i saw her maybe two years ago and it was solid, and her guitarist does some tasteful work. i haven't heard either of her records in their entirety, though.
