The city of Richmond absolutely blows... but even I may make an exception on my "avoid Richmond at all costs" policy and come down for MBV. Not sure why Seth can't make this show happen in DC.

I lived in Richmond in the early 90s.. what a godforsaken place.

The city is the pits.  Also Richmond has historically not supported live music very well at all.  Chesterfield isn't too bad, if you like rednecks.  Henrico, especially the west end, is cool but a tad too many snobs.  So basically it is about the same as most other metro areas other than all the damn one way streets in the city.

And to them I say, "Get a life!"

Oh wait. They're record store employees. In Richmond. Never mind. This is the highlight of their life.

i seriously cant believe this is happening. this will be the highlight of the summer for me!
I still can't believe it. I went to Plan 9 earlier and there were actually employees crying over it. CRYING!!

These guys are a one trick pony regardless...

Replace Chesterfiield with Suburban Maryland, Henrico with Northern Virginia and one way streets with traffic circles and you have DC.

I'd take Richmond over this festering sore of a city any day.

To make this relevant to just announced:  National box office will be open Saturday for in person sales, I've done it to a decent number of shows down there.  However, if it sells out as fast as is expected on the first couple in line will have a shot.

not only that, most of them probably werent even born when MBV was together, and probably never heard of them before 3 years ago.

there is some Art Brut song called "The Replacements"  its super funny. reminds me of that.

(man, no idea how i fucked the code up on this one!)

I don't think the MBV show will be an instant sell out.  I could be entirely wrong but I'll try to get tickets this Sat too but the shows at the National haven't really sold out the day they went on sale.

I thought you guys said MBV was huuuuuuge. That they were going to sell out Merriweather, that they could headline a major festival, that they could sell more tickets than motherfucking Hootie in a Honkie Hat.

Instead, they're playing some 1500 capacity club in Richmond.

Have you guys overestimated the popularity of these guys, or what?

I mean, what size venues were they playing back in the 90's?
