The other night at Ben Folds' show his opener, Zach Williams, asked who knew Patty Griffin.  Very few people responded.  For those who'd like to know her, and the many who already do:

Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller
9:30 Club
June 12

I think that says more about the moron factor or a Ben Folds crowd than the popularity of Patty Griffin.

MONEYTOWN RETURNS THIS FRIDAY!

Fri. 4/2
Moneytown @ Dahlak (1771 U St. NW DC)
10pm-3am
DJ Nitekrawler w/ special guest DJ:
Almighty Dollah aka Josh LaRue (DC)
PBR Special, PBRs for $3, all other Beers still cheap at $4!!
No Cover

I'm very proud to announce that I'll be DJing April's Moneytown with a good friend and soon to be Texas resident, Almighty Dollah aka Josh LaRue. Josh has been doing the soul DJ thing for many many years, and his skills on the decks are no joke. He's also been the foundation for many a DC group in the past, being that he's not just a DJ......he's a multi-talented musician and vocalist. Those of you familiar with DC groups like The Sorts or more recently the Hold-Up or Played Tomorrow know what I'm talking about. He's also become an international talent, being that he's regularly flown out to Japan for recording sessions with a prominent Japanese group. But getting back to the DJing, don't even try to step to the serious records he commands. Josh has one of the best ears for good dance floor funk and soul and he somehow always finds a way to get the best records and open up my mind to new things while I'm dancing. This will be one of the last opportunities to see Josh spin as soon he'll be in TX, and I know Josh plans to make this a special set. So grab those comfortable shoes and head to Dahlak this Friday to give Josh a proper DC send-off!

Folds' fanbase is much more college-aged these days. Griffin peaked in the 90s on AAA radio. Most of Griffin's fans are probably familiar with Folds' early stuff but nothing from the past ten years. They play to very different audiences. You might as well have asked a hip hop crowd if they knew Ferrante and Teicher.

moneytown's flyer was cool the first time . . . i liked it's "pause and soak it all in" aspects.  but now i wish they would do another one that is equally theatrically amusing with even more an edge of something different than your normal, boring old bill for the band at the bar.

Tears for Fears
Sunday, Sep. 5th
The National (Richmond)

that's a good booking for the National. Wouldn't be surprised to see a DC show soon.
wow, i had no idea they still toured.  What kind of sets do they play?

I think its the Tear for Fears...

nope, it's both of them.  they've been back together for a while now.

Aug.23rd Washington DC (TBC)
Aug.24th Baltimore (TBC)

Wish I could man, but my design skills are limited :(  .....the flyer is actually based off an old 70s DC soul show flyer distributed around town.
