Sonar festival coming to Chicago Sept. 9-11

Perfect city for it. Could be interesting, wish they had started booking earlier as LCD, Hot Chip, Delorean, and Major Lazer would've been nice if they weren't playing Pitchfork or Lollapalooza.

Just to be bitter about this, that might be the 10th somewhat mainstream music festival Chicago hosts. We can't get one.

you don't consider virgin fest/free fest somewhat mainstream?  or not a festival?  (it's been multi-day in the past, hard to justify a free multi-day show...)

Sure I do, but it is at a shed 35 minutes out of the city. And that was only last year moving forward, before that it was in Baltimore.

All 10 or whatever the number is in Chicago are pretty much in the city proper and all generally public transportation accessible.

35 minutes away how dreadful.   geez if more people went to the dates at pimlico they would have probably expanded it instaed of turning into one day event,

Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millenium Park would be an ideal venue for Sonar Festival...

You do know that Chicago has SIX times the population that DC has, right? If you want the "benefits" of living in a big city, quit yer bitchin and move to one.

Having grown up in Chicago, you couldn't pay me enough to live there. It's 600 miles away, an easy plane ride and not expensive if you plan in advance. It's cool that they still have a vibrant concert scene, but we've got Seth making stuff happen here. Thank God for him.

That makes absolutely no sense. You couldn't be paid enough to live there, yet it's an easy and possibly cheap plane ride if you plan in advance?

Chicago is a violent hellhole filled with fat asses, btw.

If you're gonna be snarky at least choose relevent facts.
I think we can all agree that metro populations are a more accurate representation.
At last count the DC metro area was ranked 8th at 5,476,241 (just 70K below Miami).
Chicago was 3rd with 9,580,567.
That's not even TWICE the population of the still very large Chicago.

DC is obviously hampered by a multitude of restrictions from not being/part of a state. Being wedged between two states that aren't too willing to give proper funding for the metro region infrastructure doesn't help.
So it can't...
-Have really cool big tall buildings to increase population within the city proper. It also has to fight with VA and MD suburbs for companies to relocate within the city.
-Develop and build really cool modern parks like Millennium
-Properly maintain its rapid transit system.
-Etc, etc...

THAT is why you will never see a bunch of really cool music festivals in DC.  Hey, most of the museums are free! (and really cool.)
