booking big name acts isn't as easy as just saying "lets get this lets get that."

right - it's not like the FSS is owned by the largest booking and talent management company in the country or anything like that.

I'm just saying - we all know it works around touring schedules/availability and stuff, and having to compete against the 930 doesn't help either. Given the circumstances, I think it's a decent start.

i know, i get what you were saying.  sorry for the sarcasm.

not sure i agree with "having to compete against the 930".  sure, until recently 930/IMP were the Big Boys in town.  but the FSS has been a long time coming, they've had plenty of time to plan for this, and in a head-to-head i don't think LN/FSS is the underdog.  it's open to interpretation, but 930 fired a volley over the bough of LN with its sept/oct lineup.  i don't get the feeling that the FSS replied with as much gusto.  if they wanted to make a statement, they could have pulled more.  they definitely haven't booked nobodies, but they haven't exactly come out guns blazing.  shows a certain lack of commitment, IMO.  more like just limping in.  maybe it's hubris (they are goliath, after all).  maybe they just don't care.

Those are interesting points you both make, but I do feel that it's also worth considering that perhaps the most frequent criticism leveled against LN is some variation of the fact that they're greedy, and with that having been said, if they were to drop Jay-Z or someone like that into a 2,000 person club, they'd be losing money (vs touring him through a venue of fitting size).  I think it's a fine line that they're skating to try and get big names in there while not choking out potential revenue they'd make by hosting these acts elsewhere.  To that end, I think the opening month or two is a pretty respectable spattering of several genres and decent sized names from each.

what people need to remember is that the filmore capacity is 2000 not 1200!

people talk about them as if they are interchangeable...

The capacity difference has major implications as does the fact that LN has similar venues up and down the east coast/nation and will be telling acts it can offer them a package of tour venues...

I think people are really not thinking about it clearly on this board... Live Nation is the biggest concert promoter in the world.. IMP has been killing them locally but this will have a big impact on that competition.. I wonder if IMP is thinking about a bigger venue..

also remember there are a lot of people out in MD who don't want to drive in to DC or deal with DC and the Fillmore is just a mile or so off of 495..these people may not be going to concerts now but maybe they will now that the Fillmore is opening..

I know the 2000 capacity has been thrown around before but according to their own site it appears that the capacity is 1100 (plus another 50 who can mingle in the stylin' VIP lounge haha)

I caught Jay-Z at Bonnaroo about 14 months ago.  If anyone is even thinking about making it to this one, I'd certainly recommend it.  I saw him out of curiosity and was completely blown away by his skill not just as a rapper, but as a showman.  It was a terrific show.

Got any ticket info for these?

I streamed Kanye's performance from Coachella this year, and I was impressed in a similar fashion.  Should be a good show, hopefully ticket prices aren't outrageous.
