I will never understand this board's love for Frank Turner. His blandness is coma-inducing.
I can totally understand why you don't understand the appeal of Frank Turner. I also find him bland, and musically uninteresting and I'm slightly embarrassed that I like him. I do though, because he is pretty much what I would be if I were making music. Toned down punk rock sensibility, no vocal range, grew up on the same stuff that I did, and writing straight forward songs about his life. Musically it's not that interesting, but there is some passion and bite to it.
I don't understand the use of the "b" word in regard to Frank.
Bland: (of a person or behavior) showing no strong emotion; dull and unremarkable. ....
His music is uplifting, emotional, fun, anthemic, sing-a-long, and all sorts of other adjectives that would make it unappealing to many people -- which is great for me, because it means he still plays 930, and not Echo or worse -- but not "bland."
Also, first learned about him from Josh Burdette's FB page and Vas Deferens gave me a free ticket to the Fillmore show. I've seen him 3 times since, and will see him 3 times over the October 3rd/4th, because it's a fun show to see.
