Did I miss when Dua Lipa became a megastar artist?
Did I miss when jorja smith became a megastar artist?

They both deserve to be. Dua Lipa was #12 on this list.

https://www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/2020/top-artists

So Jorja wasn't on that list

and who are these people?  I obviously don't listen to modern Hip Hop or Country

Mustard (the most not-rock moniker I've heard)
Rod Wave
Kane Brown
Polo G
YoungBoy Never Broke
Dan + Shay
Trippie Redd
Moneybagg Yo (really...that is a pretty lame stage name)
JACKBOYS
YNW Melly
NLE Choppa
Arizona Zervas

All the Lil's are representing in this list too
Lil Wayne
Lil Baby
Lil Uzi Vert
Lil Mosey
Lil Nas X
Lil Durk
Lil Tecca
Lil Tjay

Liddle’ Adam Schiff got robbed and should have made this list

My wife and daughter could explain to you who all the Lil's are. My wife is a big Lil Tecca fan. You're a middle aged man. It's not your job to keep up with those things.

I think I saw Dan_Shay on some awards show. They were a special kind of awful.

Well it’s never a job keeping up with new music.. it’s never something you have to do... that would be just succumbing to peer pressure.. like you have to be educated about the latest music, movies and going ons... Presumably it’s something people like to do or not... but it’s certainly not a job and has zero to do with age unless you are just following the herd

8% of the 100 artists have lil in their name...that's just lame and a lack of creativity

I like to keep my finger on the pulse of modern music, but it's really getting beyond my grasp

Is there now a Lil section in the record store?

Going to be weird in 20 years when the oldies stations are doing the "lil-hour" and playing only songs by an artist with Lil in their name
heck, there are probably a dozen I missed

maybe it will be the Memorial Day Weekend countdown of the top 100 artists with Lil in their name

It’s just a trend like when people transpose syllables of famous bands or artists

https://1051thebounce.com/2018/06/07/apparently-theres-8000-artists-lil-name-spotify/

How could I forget
Lil Yachty
Lil Pump
Lil Peep
Lil’ Kim - The OG of Lil's and the only female ( I think)  (I noticed that few go with the Apostrophe)

Yeah but it’s the same concept.. lazy and start with something familiar

I don’t know though...maybe it’s always been thus

The Crickets
The Beatles (key letter change)
The Byrds (ditto)
The Doors (of perception)

It does make one long for the days bands opened up a dictionary or book and came up with something cool like

The Velvet Underground
The Grateful Dead

Primavera

This is really just too much!

https://pitchfork.com/news/primavera-sound-2022-lineup-pavement-massive-attack-lorde-the-strokes-more/

It’s so good.

When do we get our Pavement anthem date?

Well one can hope 2022... I would love that.. just not sure what their draw is on their own... as great as they were even in their heyday the most they pulled was 1000 at the 930... I hope a new generation wants to check them out...

There is no way Pavement will regroup to just tour clubs like 930...  Summer festivals and a few dates in NYC might be it
