Paying $100 to hear Geddy Lee talk about a book at a casino is ridiculous.

Have some respect for your fans and yourself you whores.

Yes, that's pretty ridiculous. But anyway, in case you were wondering---

Fri Nov 17 – National Harbor, MD – The Theater at MGM National Harbor

That's because none of the five people who post here are going.

They did this in Takoma Park a couple weeks ago with Brendan Canty on the panel, too. A nice little background on Don and some fun stories. They all hung around for autographs and conversation afterward.  Definitely worth an hour of your time, if you're in the area.

At my old age, I find the concept of autographs to be kind of...weird. But it's even weirder when people whom 99.8% of the population wouldn't recognize sign autographs. I guess that's what makes those autographs special...they're magnifixence is magnified among those 0.2% who do know and idolize them.

People idolize Don? I would say they have respect for his work. Respect well earned.

I don’t expect the entire world to be into autographs but I do find it amusing when people put others down for collecting autographs. Even discounting autographs, seeking them out often  leads to interesting interactions with musicians. It gives one the pretext.  For example, many years ago Jorge Ben played at the Birchmere and after the show we were ushered backstage group by group and got to hang out with the man himself. Being from Brazil he rarely has performed in the US and was genuinely touched to meet us. Yes, he signed my record but that was the least important thing about the exercise.

Or the time I drove up to NYC to see my favorite musician Andres Calamaro at Irving Plaza and got backstage where I got to hang out with Andres for a bit and talk among other things about Bob Dylan’s chances to win the Nobel. A few years later he did…

Or the time I was at the 930 and standing outside hoping to meet Peter Hook and Thatguy saw me and a few minutes later lo and behold Hooky came out.

And like that dozens of stories.

Fact is you have to put in the time and often go home empty handed and that deters many people from seeking autographs. But speaking only for myself I can say chasing autographs has been very rewarding. Wish I had started earlier….

Yeah, to me it just highlights the inequity between me and the "famous" person and the awkwardness and manufacturedness of the situation. But I'm a notorious introvert by nature, and rarely seek out social interaction, especially among strangers. But that's me. Good for you that it brings you some joy in life (not being facetious.)

Well I don’t go to that many shows anymore and I can’t stay out that late…

The State Theatre was great for meeting musicians back when they got decent gigs.
