Are you talking to me?  If so, answer:  jamband fans.  Hippies.  Generalizations, for sure. But years ago, that was the crowd at a Lake Trout show.  They used to pack Trax and it was all the Spreadheads and PhishPhans.  Those fans are no longer interested since LT added more vocals and started shortening their songs.

With this band and this genre, yes, I am an expert demographer.

jajajaja...their live lounge performance at Woxy was pretty good..didn't hear anything to suggest they were a jamband...but you lot know more about them and their history than me so I'll digress...

Ah, yeah.  Smelly, long-haired hippies..not to be confused with stinky-smoking short-haired or balding elite music snobs...now I get it. What do I own, btw?

edit:  Wasn't even aware of YOUR original use of the word "hippie" Arlette. Glad you enjoy being recognized as an expert demographer, however.

Why the hostility so often?  Seriously.  You seem to not like the generalization of hippies but then you turn around and generalize quite often by accusing anyone who disagrees with you on any topic of being an elite music snob.

I am far from being an elite music snob.  My favorite band of all time is U2.  Here's another good one:  when I hear Nickelback's new song Photograph on the radio, I DON'T turn it off, I actually find myself singing along.  I like some of the so-called "jambands" as much as I like My Bloody Valentine or Kasabian or The Stone Roses.

Anyway, I've been around music for a long time (read:  I'm old), so I happen to know a lot about certain genres and not much on others.  This one I happen to know about. That's all I was saying.

I resent that....I quit smoking almost 5 years ago.

 Lighten up, Francis!

I'm a resident hater of all things hippie, and I like Lake Trout. I've never thought of them as hippie or jam shit, in fact, the first time I heard one of their CDs in a club, I thought it sounded like Kid A-era Radiohead.

I remember when I lived in Baltimore ten years ago and I had a friend who was into them, I certainly think they were considered jam bandish back then.

I believe they started as a jam band in the early 90s, but have changed a lot since.  Woxy asked them about being known as a 'jam band' during their lounge set, and they seemed quite offended.  Kid A-era Radiohead is a good comparison..

"You talking to me?" Isn't hostile?  I was addressing myself to someone who has posted here an insane number of times and who attacks every new fan who posts here, outside of the, ahem, 930 Forum Pit-Bull Club.

I am also OLD with a long history as a music fan, musician and promoter of local bands.  I am - perhaps more polite and less-narrow minded than you think - and have very often shared your tastes in music, including those bands listed in your posting above.

You may not know it, but this forum has become fairly well-known for hostility, rudeness, aggression, and intolerance. I'm sure ggw can find the remarks in the Post on-line and DCist to back this up, and I've tried not to participate in the attacks - but on occasion, I slip and go after Peter who seems off-the-hook mean.  Sorry.
