 They added more vocals and different song structures.....they got a lot of acclaim a few years ago and were picked up by Gary Kurfist, who managed the Ramones.  Chris Blackwell (U2, Marley, Siouxsie) signed them to his label after he sold Island.  None of that worked out, for various reasons, and they are sort of on their own now, but their agent at William Morris still really believes in them, that's how they got the opening slot for Pixies on a few dates.  
 
 Instrumentation is lead guitar, lead vocals/rhythm guitar, bass, drums, keys/flute (yes, flute).

 Can't say that I've known much about them so was very confused when I heard their song played on 3wk.com several times of recent. You see, I always knew, or at least thought, they were a Jam band. Then I kept hearing some new song on 3wk and it wasn't a Jam song by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I kind of liked it which surprised me. Guess you could say it's now more simple Indie Rock. By simple, I mean that it's not loaded with effects, screaming, whining, experimentation or any other feature that some Indies go into.
 
 Sounds like it should be a good show that will attract new fans for each band.

 Finally, that was one of the best line-ups at the Black Cat I've seen in a while.  Fico, your new 4-man staging is fabulous and you guys sounded excellent
 
 As for those who missed Gun and Lake Trout...us dirty smelly hippies had quite a nice time and these musicians gave us the best music played there in a while; the fact they're all locals made it even sweeter.

 Oh, btw, I found another (C)artel except that they spell it Kartel. Think they are French. Need to go back and check them out again as my ears were busy but from what I heard, I think they may have been pretty decent. Maybe the 3 of you could form some kind of cartel and do a tour. You know, a 'if you can't beat them, join them' kind of thing.    :p

 Heard y'all friday.  There was one bit in one song that sounded familiar from another song, but otherwise great and original.  
 
 My one beef, your guitarist has to tune more.  I had to leave the room for one song because he was so out of tune.  Right after that song he tuned, apoligizing when I thought he should have apologized for the last one.  Please, when you change the capo's point, you need to retune.  
 
 Oh, and from the back it was muddy, but sounded great where people were.  I will have to get the CD.

 There seems to be more than just ONE minor beef.  Maybe you should seriously consider taking over as guitarist for the band?  Give the bass duties to that sour note flunky.  Maybe you'll do more than just make 28th on the accursed Kraut charts.
 
 Perhaps then you'ld breakthrough to absolute superstardom in the stellar Frog charts?

Well thanks to everyone who came and thanks for the feedback, we learn a lot from it. As Sushi said it was a good night all around...I think everyone in attendance was impressed by "Gun" who opened the show..it was only their second show but they were on top form...the singer for GUN used to be the singer in Phaser so the band seems to be formed around veterans of the local scene..fantastic drummer as well...
 
 Lake Trout was pretty good as well...there was a lot of crowd chatter throughout the night which was rather annoying but it's part of the scene I reckon...
 
 anywho...thanks for coming and hope to see some of you sometime next year along with a new EP in early spring...going on xmas vacation tomorrow for 3 weeks back in the island...bliss!

I knew I recognized the singer from GUN and thought of Phaser. Are they no longer together?
 
 Great job Fico, the bands sound is maturing. But what happened to your second guitarist? I thought he added quite a bit.

I won't go as far as saying that Phaser have completely broken up but I guess they have with the option of reforming if they so choose. Or maybe I'm just still in denile. Very sad day in my life but not completely shocked as you could clearly hear their musical directions splintering off into various directions if you've seen their last couple of shows. I tried to book them for a show but they refused solely for their own reasons and nothing to do with the booking itself. So sad for their fans.
 
 Boris, Siayko's (Gun) brother, is now in a band called Dead Heart Bloom whose debut CD is just about ready for release. They are sending me a copy.         Paul Wood and I think a couple of the other Phaser guys have contributed little pieces to it but it's not Phaser. You can definitely hear Boris' influence. Sort of along the lines of Phaser's "Sweet Marie". Kind of dark in their own way but not what you would call Dark Wave. I think Paul is involved in some other project himself but not sure of what yet.

I thought all three bands put on a great show.  
 
 Gun were really fantastic- all were seasoned musicans, that was obvious.  
 
 Cedars had a couple of songs that reall stood out as well, one near the beginning and a couple at the end.  Look forward to hearing more from these guys on '06.  Certainly the band of the night in terms of writing a "single" or a tune with a true hook.  
 
 Lake Trout were solid, as they have always been in recent years.
 
 All three groups fit well sonically for a 3 band bill.  Good night all the way around.
