Jack Black hosts SNL
« on: September 28, 2003, 11:23:00 pm »
As an FYI, Jack Black is hosting the season opener of
Saturday Night Live this coming Saturday, Oct. 4.

 Woo hoo!

For lots more on Jack Black, see the following:

 http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/28/movies/28UDOV.html

JACK BLACK Dave Frishberg may be a jazz singer and Jack Black an actor, but both are hipster comedians of manners.  Mr. Frishberg had his seriousness about jazz formed by bebop in the 1950's, when jazz musicians were widely accepted as philosopher-heroes. Mr. Black â?? whose new movie "School of Rock," in which he plays a grade-school teacher of rock manners, opens on Friday â?? had his seriousness about rock formed in the early 1980's, when Ronnie James Dio was acting out Arthurian male fantasies in Black Sabbath. Both Mr. Black and Mr. Frishberg are now operating in an era when the music of their youth seems grandiose and a bit old-fashioned; both are trying to intimate that they're aware of this problem. But if they are jaded, they are also generous performers who mean no harm. Make no mistake: Mr. Black's loving parodies of early-80's metal singing â?? in television appearances, and in this movie â?? are the steamrollers that have paved the runway for groups like the Darkness. When he sings the AC/DC song "It's a Long Way to the Top," in "School of Rock," humor is intended. But it is enough to send you back to the original.

What do you think he goes? Maybe 215? I've got two words for Jack Black...por....

No wait, two other words: Shallow Hal. Other than the 70's porn my wife makes me watch  :) , that may be the worst movie I've ever seen.

 3. How tall is Jack? He seems to be on the small side.
Yes, Jack isn't exactly the Jolly Green Giant. His height has been stated as anything from 5'4" to 5'6".

 5. How much does Jack weigh?
I'm sure it's no secret that Jack has lost some weight in the past year or two. However, as to the exact amount...that's kinda personal dontcha' think? As far as his diet habits, I heard him mention once that he cut back on the carbs.

I met Jack Black at the 9:30 Club a few years ago when Tenacious D played.  i was up in the balcony right to the left of the stage, and he was hanging out during the opening act.  He was real short, but it looked like he had lost a lot of weight then, compared to how he looked on the HBO Tenacious D shows.

why do you care how much Jack Black, or anyone else for that matter, weighs?

Shouldnt you be more interested in arguing if the person is funny, or a good actor or a great singer?

Maybe you should change your name to shallow hal?

But being fat (actually he's more chubby than fat these days) and dumpy is part of his schtick. The persona that HE chooses to create give rise the question.

Buddy Hackett held out for a long time and Rodney Dangerfield is still going strong. Has a young hot wife too.

I really dont agree with either of those comments. I think it just relects the negative way you judge and view people.

 Shallow Rhett.

Being a (fat) schlub isn't part of Jack Black's schtick? Christ, he plays a character named "Fred Schlub". What more evidence do you want?

We haven't had a comedy at F-M in a while, so "Superer" comes at a good time. As we all know, comedy is a hard genre to write. Hell it's probably the hardest genre to write. Plenty of people are funny, but not many people can write funny. Can Marlowe write funny? We're about to find out, eh?

"Superer" is the sequel to the hit superhero parody "Super Movie." Fred Schlub, a.k.a. "The Triumphant" -- not Triumphant Man or Triumphant Boy, just "The Triumphant" -- is joined in his attempt to fight evil using no powers whatsoever by his mysterious niece Cherry Fox and bumbling best friend Al Arthurs. "The Triumphant" must foil the evil plot of the serendipitously named Erektra. One wordâ?¦ AWESOME!

Jack Black as Fred Schlub, Seann William Scott as Al Arthurs, Lacey Chabert as Cherry Fox and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Erektra comprise a surprisingly good cast. Jack Black as the overweight, powerless superhero is as natural as they come. Seann William Scott as the bumbling security guard is a perfect fit, and Zeta-Jones as the stunningly beautiful villain also works. In other words, the cast fits, and the directors are right for this genre. French Stewart turns in a powerhouse performance as "nearly everyone else."  ;)

Well I am shallow.

But I would consider myself above criticising peoples body types. I have not been in a playground for 12 years.

chlub also shlub     ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (shlb)
   n. Slang
A person regarded as clumsy, stupid, or unattractive.

this belies your own attitude of finding fat people unattractive.
