    I can only comment on how things worked for me. Using the inspiration of being called "fatso" did help me to change my behaviors and make me a better person.
 
    Being called "faggot" is a totally different issue, in that it involves sexual preference, which to a large degree is not  a choice like being fat is.
 
    Choosing to live amongst people who at least on the surface are a little less homophobic was my choice in that matter, since choosing to change one's sexual preferences is much less a matter of choice that choosing to lose weight.

I think for some people it's a choice and for others it's not...but that's just my opinion, not sure if there is any strong evidence to prove it one way or another.

I disagree Celeste...there's no way a totally straight person could ever decide to engage in homosexual acts. There must be some "gayness", for want of a better word, in there in the first place.

I do fully agree with this one. It's an extremely complex issue. In some case, I believe it's fully a biological issue. In others, I think it's more a nurturing or environmental issue. In some cases, a mixture.
