walkonby was recently interviewed for  this article, little did he know that it would be turned into such an expose... maybe this thread is his mea culpa?

I am taking an online Sexual Harrassment training today and the only question I've missed so far was one about a woman talking about her period:

"Whatâ??s wrong?" Arthur asks when he finds Eloise frantically searching the cabinets in their department's common area. "Iâ??m dying here!" Eloise responds. "Killer menstrual cramps and my period is so, so heavy. Do we have any aspirin in here?"

Is Eloiseâ??s statement to Arthur appropriate?

        Yes
        No
 ------------------------

I said yes - it didn't bother me one bit.  But the correct answer was no because:

In determining a reasonable personâ??s perspective on workplace harassment, the law takes into account cultural differences between men and women. A reasonable man is likely to take offense at comments about a female colleague's menstrual period.

What the hell reasonable man are they talking about?

 i don't download, i listen to cds.
 i don't multi-play online, i prefer to 1 player.
i don't have a myspace account or blog.
i have not had television for 3 years.
i sometimes enjoy reading magazines over novels.
i think that live shows are becoming to be a pain in the ass.

 now may the insults begin.
Except for the tv thing we could've been seperated at birth....and I admire you for the tv thing. I wish I could do without tv, but how would I get to see my beloved Man Utd, and I'd really miss the history/discovery/animal/court channels but I'd probably get over them....but not United, I'd have to move back to manc, which means getting divorced, so I'll stick with the telly because I hit the jackpot with my wife..

I've given this a lot of thought. I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand, if my girlfriend or sister told me they were on their period, I wouldn't have a problem with it in the least. I mean, we're all adults, right?

At the same time, putting myself in a workplace situation, I can see why its more awkward. Not that I'm uncomfortable with the particular information disclosed so much as I'd find it unusual that a co-worker would divulge such a thing since, in my experience, my casual female acquaintances don't typically offer up insight into their menstrual cycle.

However, also in my experience, most guys I know are significantly less comfortable with the topic then I am. The window of who they feel comfortable knowing such things about narrows leaving many feeling awkward when random people divulge such info.

I guess what I'm saying is, I have no real problem with it personally, but if I was a female, I wouldn't make such statements at work knowing that someone at some point would be offended/weirded out.

I sometimes wish men got periods too, so we could have a guaranteed sick day (or two) each month, or an excuse to kill your spouse and get away with it if they piss you off.

When you're right, you're right.  Sort of like how I wish I was a smoker so I could take a 15 minute break every hour.

I have a theory on that too - they should allow smoking in the workplace so the non-smokers can go outside for a break every 15 minutes when a smoker sparks up.

That's pretty funny. Noel emphatically loves cigarettes, clothes, and his new bed, but only mentions his daughter at the very end as an afterthought and doesn't mention his girlfriend/wife at all. Class.

At least Liam had the sense to put his mother at #2 and his kids and wife at #3. Of course, his #1 was "me".

And neither of them mentioned each other.
