Well, I like all kinds of music, I'm not closed minded and I think Dave Matthews sucks.  Therefore, I won't be listening to his new album. I'm sure if I flip the radio on 5 minutes a day I'll get more than enough exposure to it in a week.

I've often heard DMB described as jazz-lite, rock-lite, jam-lite, etc. Basically their music can be explained by inserting a genre name and adding "lite." Personally, I don't really care for them.

But really, I can take him in small doses, but radio no longer believes in small doses; it's DMB, more DMB, and, coming up after 10 minutes of commercials, some more DMB. So, don't touch that dial!!

Believe it or not, radio people call those 10 minute blocks of ads "stop sets." Well, yeah, they  stop me from tuning in....

They've just grown terribly stale for me over the last 5-7 years.  I haven't seen anything innovative out of them since I thought their original stuff sounded fairly different.  Unfortunately, they haven't changed much in my eyes (or ears, I guess).  I think the last album I bought was Before these crowded streets, and I didn't care much for most of that one.

The Mrs. still buys the albums, and I hear them, but they're not anything I write about.  I certainly won't go see them again, especially at the venues they've been playing.  I'm still on their email list and it seems that everytime a band member wipes his ass I get an email about it.

I'll throw my few cents in....

DMB back in the day were rather good i thought.  It wasn't mindblowingly good, but it was certainly fresh and decent musicianship too.  I liked the first two albums a lot and listener supported live album.  The third one was a little off for a number of songs, but when they were on...as in Crush, they were incredible.  Interestingly enough I stayed away from them for a long time because all the jocks in my school listened to them (high school).  I only really got into them and saw them live when they toured in 2002, unfortunately, they were already going stale.  By now they've dropped off my radar screen quite a bit.

Don't you hate when you come to a thread and want to add something but it'll just end up being what everyone else's already said?  :)  I've always seen them as a watered down radio-friendly version of the many decent jam bands out there.

I saw dmb five years ago and it was easily in the worst three concerts I've ever seen category.  Sitting amongst a bunch of college freshmen who haven't started shaving yet smoking pot and talking the whole time while watching pop shoegazers who have a way too hightened image of themselves did not for a fun evening make.  Some concerts enhance the feeling of studio work, that experience has made every dmb song I've ever heard before or since really blow.
