But the thing about metallica is metal heads hate them.they sold out  because they went from thrash metal to hard rock.I could see metal heads coming to the show for the fact they play music only off there first 5 albums but it would just be for them
they wouldnt get there at 11 in the morning and just sit through 5 or 6 bands they never heard of or dont like.

So I said at least they could headline the 2nd stage, but is it a stretch to think they could headline the main stage next year?
i've seen it with my own eyes: daft punk do a killer job of headlining a main stage.  based on my reading of reviews of lolla (which i've done a lot of), they are the most popular candidate for "best set of the festival".  what is your concern about putting them there?  their stage/light set-up is huge, i'm not sure it would fit the second stage (definitely not last year's second stage).

vfest doesn't have a theme - it's not an indie-fest, or a classic-rawk-fest, or a rap-fest... it's a bit-of-everything-for-everyone-fest.  metallica are mainstream compared to every other "metal" acts.  i think putting on the pumpkins was a greater stretch.

I don't think Daft Punk would be as main stream, as say, the Chili Peppers, The Who, The Smashing Pumpkins or The Police, which is my only concern about that. I'd love to see Daft Punk headline teh main stage, I think it would be one of the greatest things I'll ever see/experience live. I've heard enough Daft live mixes and seen enough videos [entire coachella set on video google] to know that that's something I need to see live. But for some reason I don't see them headlining the main stage at the V Fest next year, I wonder what 94.7 The Globe would say...

The Globe would say "Daft What?", considering i heard one of their DJs say that KT Tunstall and Paulo Nutini are some of the great rock currently coming out of Scotland

I like some of the ideas people have for V fest.

 My list of ideas are:

 1. Soundgarden (people would go nuts trust me)
 2. Pearl Jam (I could see this working if SG don't reunite)
 3. Oasis (it makes sense to me)
 4. She Wants Revenge (they got a new album coming out soon)
 5. Prince (already mentioned it but might as well do it again)
 6. Mighty Mighty Bosstones (if you can get them to reunite!)
 7. Radiohead
 8. Blur (maybe?)
 9. The Happy Mondays
 10. Rage Against the Machine
 11. Foo Fighters
 12. Iggy Pop and The Stooges (it would work well if earlier in the day)
 13. David Bowie (he'd make a killer headliner)
 14. Muse
 15. Daft Punk
 16. Against Me!
 17. PJ Harvey
 18. Nick Cave (either Grinderman or Bad Seeds)
 19. The Cult

okay that's all I can think of right now. I think there's a lot of awesome people and bands who Seth could book for next year. Basically in my mind, V-fest is the festival for people who love rock'n roll and music in general.

I hardly care at this point who gets booked.  I didn't necessarily care for the bands during the first one and I had a great time.  When they expanded it to two days and threw together a lineup of bands that I personally enjoy, I had a great time again.  I now have complete faith in the Virgin people that next year will be fantastic based on those two experiences.  Any of the bands that have been mentioned would be fine with me.

I also think its hilarious the idea that Daft Punk might not play a dance tent due to the fact that "their pyramid is too big".  I am laughing picturing the negotiations breaking down and the Daft Punk guys storming out of the meeting over the size of their pyramid.  It all just seems very Spinal Tap-ish.  Anyway, I'd love to see them next year too.

They need to go back into hibernation for another five or so years, they've played/will play enough over the last 18 months for everyone that really wants to see them to see them.  The great thing about Daft Punk was that their appearances were rare and therefore special, we're coming close to borderline DP fatigue at this point.  Be happy that Portishead is coming back, and add them to your petition for both V Fest and a club gig.

Get the Manic Street Preachers to fly over here to play and I'll blow $$$ on a one day ticket just to see them.

Just get them to play at the club (or anywhere on this continent).

I probably just need to suck it up and fly over to the UK to see them.

very nice, Portishead would be a phenomenal booking for the V-Fest - great call!

 how about:

 Manu Chao
 Massive Attack
 Gentleman & Far East Band
 De La Soul
 The Orishas
 Lynton Kwesi Johnson
 Pancho Sanchez
 Amadou & Mariam
 Midnite
 SOJA

**clearly i have different taste in music than a lot of others on here, but i think that the diversity of the line-up was one of the real strengths of the Virgin Festival and i hope that tradition will continue.  (would love to see more reggae, latin, world music flavors - and a few good hip-hop acts as well!)
