What critics are saying about Killers and Stars:

 Billboard
??lo-fi yet powerful... some incredibly fine songs.?

 The Washington Post
??[Killers & Stars is a] bleak, beautiful document... veteran fans will devour Hood's experiment in artistic therapy with gusto.?

 Winston-Salem Journal
??Hood's sharp songwriting probes the darkness of Southern closets... think of him as the Tennessee Williams of Alabama songwriters.?

 All Music Guide
??like [Bruce Springsteen's] Nebraska, Killers and Stars is an album whose plain surfaces and rough edges only add to the impact of the final work.?

 Knoxville Metro Pulse
??Killers & Stars confirms that Hood is one hell of a songwriter.?

Except for one overly cheesy song, this is the album for me.

California Kid was so ahead of it's time.  All the Country Dick Montana stuff was just ducky.

As for non-Dick, GUN SALE AT THE CHURCH is killer!  Neil Young's POWDERFINGER is there, as well.   This is defintely NOT alt-country!  It's rawkus Cowpunk.

 Assault on Precinct 13 Soundtrack

Ice Cube cites this score as a major influence.  The film was kickass!

a new EP that's blowing me away...

best thing I've heard this year so far.  brilliant lyrics, pavement-ish rambling melodies, a little folk, a little free jazz, a little post-punk...can't wait for the LP.

Saw them in San Francisco in an Irish bar in a neighborhood called the Sunset (?) playing to about 10 folks.  Some songs were very good, others seemed a bit uninspired live.
