For the screen name mashup king...

 Are We Not Movies?

Mark Mothersbaugh cranks open the vault to unveil outtakes from his lauded scores to Wes Anderson's films, as well as other surprises from his some 95 film and television projects.

Frontman of the extremely influential new wave band Devo, the multitalented Mothersbaugh began scoring film and television in the 1980's. His innovative, eclectic, and quirky musical style lead to an accumulation of diverse credits including THIRTEEN, THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE, THE BIRDCAGE, and the TV series - "Rugrats," "Pee-wee's Playhouse," and "Working." Mothersbaugh is well known for acclaimed soundtracks to director Wes Anderson's films BOTTLE ROCKET, RUSHMORE, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, and THE LIFE AQUATIC.

 Stay tuned for more.

Air Formation - 57 Octaves Below (EP)

 Televise - Outside Out (EP)

Also The Undertones "Teenage Kicks" is being rereleased. No surprise to anyone, I'm sure.

 And Mew, probably in August.

more undertones details - also they have announced a US tour but no DC date as yet

To celebrate the April 4th Sanctuary Records release of Teenage Kicks - a double CD set that chronicles one of pop musicâ??s most exciting periods, the glory days of punk and new wave - Sanctuary will also release the original Teenage Kicks EP by The Undertones as a limited 7 inch 4-track vinyl.

This was the record which, back in 1978, introduced the Derry lads to the world, originally released on the Irish independent label, Good Vibrations

To view the full press release click here.

Originally pressed up in limited quantities, it's long been a highly sought after and valued collector's item. When Seymour Stein (Sire Records' mogul) heard the lead track on John Peel's radio show, he immediately signed the band - and "Teenage Kicks' was duly reissued on Sire, becoming their first of many Top 40 hits. The 4 track EP features four classic slices of ebullient Punk-Pop energy:

 1. Teenage Kicks
 2. Smarter Than U
 3. True Confessions
 4. Emergency Cases

This reissue is strictly limited to 1,000 numbered copies.

The National release their first single for Beggars Banquet, via download, called 'Abel' - which is available right now!

 http://www.beggars.com/digitalsingles/abel.html

Described by Uncut as 'a genuine treasure' The National are five New York based friends from Ohio, who started making music in 1999.  To date, the band have released two albums 'The National' and 'Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers', which won critical acclaim from Uncut (best albums of the year) to the NME, from France's Liberation (one of their top five albums of 2003) to The Sunday Times. The band has toured Europe twice and recently completed an American tour, including dates with The Walkmen.

The National contains two pairs of brothers - Aaron Dessner (guitars, bass) and Bryce Dessner (guitar), Scott Devendorf (guitar, bass), Bryan Devendorf (drums) and singer Matt Berninger.  Their new album 'Alligator' will be released on Monday the 11th of April 2005 in the UK.

You can download the single now, complete with an exclusive b-side, which wont feature on the standard 7" or CD single. The official release for these formats are the 14th March 2005.

Mountain Goats Plan Expanded LP, Set Tour Dates

 Rob Mackey reports:
Beyond the Bob Pollards and Jandeks of our insulated lil' bubble, there aren't that many jaw-droppingly prolific musicians whose recorded output is fawn-all-over-able. John Darnielle-- a man capable of releasing somewhere in the ballpark of 40 7", 10", 12", CDs, and cassettes over 14 years-- is my personal favorite workhorse.

So of course I was all smiles when the Mountain Goat recently announced the release of The Sunset Tree, the follow-up to last year's delightful We Shall All Be Healed. Yup, as reported last month by the Fork, the album is streetin' over in the UK on April 25 and on April 26 in the U.S. But what we didn't tell you back then-- 'cause it wasn't news yet-- is that the latest Goats offering will also be released as a limited-edition vinyl, featuring home-demo'd versions of the album's tracks, as well as some "adult-contemporary love jams," which reminds us of Darnielle's public love-in for "Ignition (Remix)" over at Last Plane to Jakarta. So if we keep them fingers crossed, kids, maybe the Mountain Goats'll be sippin' on coke and rum, 'cause they're like "so what, I'm drunk!" come late April.

The CD version of The Sunset Tree was produced by John Vanderslice and features the work of Franklin Bruno and acclaimed jazz cellist Eric Freidlander, among other guests. Like its predecessor, it's a set of personal and often dark lyrics combined with upbeat melodies. As previously reported, its tracklisting is:

 01 You or Your Memory
 02 Broom People
 03 This Year
 04 Dilaudid
 05 Dance Music
 06 Dinu Lipatti's Bones
 07 Up the Wolves
 08 Lion's Teeth
09 Hast Thou Considered the Tetrapod?
 10 Magpie
 11 Song for Dennis Brown
 12 Love Love Love
 13 Pale Green Things

Pernice Brothers:

We're telling you first, before we alert the pundits and the scenesters and the music business glitterati (they won't take our calls anyway).  The title of the new album is "Discover a Lovelier You."  It will be released in the US on June 14, 2005, which is of course Flag Day.  I don't have release dates yet in other countries, as I don't know when their Flag Days are, but as soon as I hear from One Little Indian, who is releasing in the UK and Europe, and Spunk, who is releasing in Australia, I will let you know.

per torrentspy.com, you can listen to it right now.

I've only listened once and I was underwhelmed.  Seems like they got farther from the punk edge of 100 Broken Windows and more toward a Coldplay sound.

I heard something about a new Flaming Lips album to be released later this year.  It's called "At War With the Mystics" or something like that.

I've got a general question.  I don't understand the interest in getting an album title or track names months before a release.  It doesn't tell me anything.  Am I missing something?  I'm interested in the release date of an upcoming album, but lots of pre-release info seems useless.  Not criticizing anyone's approach to their music luv, just wondering.
