I think that was intentional...SNL needing headlines - she's reading her cue cards for crying out loud and Kristin Wiig didn't even flinch). No press is bad press when your ratings are in the tank (as long as they're not talking about your ratings). It's a small fine to pay for a newbie on the first show of the season. Of course on the West Coast it was bleeped out...
I think it was legit. Debut nerves and the quick succession of f(aux)-words made a slip-up inevitable. Slate's reaction seemed genuine; someone else noticed Wiig's eyes bulged but who can really tell with her. At the show's end, Slate was being embraced by Myers; the body language was sympathetic and comforting. As for press, SNL doesn't really need it that badly. It's been riding high so the press was already there.
