so, a quick scan through the line-up revealed that i wouldn't mind seeing the following bands:
Quote
Friday (April 25)
 The Verve
 The Raconteurs
 The Breeders
 Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
 Stars
 Battles
 Adam Freeland
 John butler Trio
 Dan Deacon
 Architecture in Helsinki
 Datarock

 Saturday (April 26)
 Portishead
 Kraftwerk
 Death Cab for Cutie
 Sasha & Digweed
 Rilo Kiley
 Hot Chip
 Islands
 Calvin Harris
 VHS or Beta
 MGMT
 Sebastian
 Kavinsky

 Sunday (April 27)
Roger Waters 'Dark Side of the Moon'
 Love and Rockets
 Spiritualized
 Justice
 Gogol Bordello
 The Streets
 Metric
 Danny Tenaglia
 Simian Mobile Disco
 Booka Shade
 Dmitri From Paris
 Les Savy Fav
 Black Mountain

over-all, i'd be damn satisfied if i could get those bands in over 3 days.  but as a whole, i'm not sure it's worth over a grand... so for now, i'll also sit this one out (and hope that many of the above are streamed live at the at&t blueroom).  i'm not confident that any of the east coast festivals will come up with line-ups as good (but seth, feel free to disprove my lack of faith).

did everyone notice that CALVIN HARRIS is on the bill?!?  i really really hope this means he'll be on a wider north american tour this spring.  hey seth...

do we have any guarantees that lolla will be any better?  coachella's setting is pretty damn spectacular, and i definitely appreciate how organized and superficially un-commercial the festival is.  lolla's  "bud light stage brought to you by ford" vibe bugs.  lolla will definitely be cheaper, tho.  i'm sure this has been posted before, but just in case someone missed it: lolla = August 1-3, 2008.

coachella has a nice setting, but definitely not worth seeing this year cuz of the lineup. It makes me furious. Jack Johnson is freakin' easy listening sh*t. Roger Waters? Didn't he tour last year? (nothing exciting about it). Would have been better with PJ Harvey, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp?? And guess what, the 3 day pass this year is $270!!!

at first i thought coachella was trying to scale back, have less mega-stars, essentially return to it's smaller and more indie roots.  that price tags makes me think that they're being lazy and trying to cash in: spend less money on signing acts while raking in more cash.  the festival will definitely not sell out this year.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed in the lineup, but I'm making the trip anyway. Plus, during yesterday's annoucement Tollett said they still had a few "tricks up their sleeve" makes me hope some other deals are still being worked out.

The main issue I see is that they're spreading what should essentially be a pretty decent 2-day lineup over 3 days, and it just seems thin to me. And yeah, $270 over 3 days is steep. As much as I love going out there, there just isn't enough to make me commit to that kind of time and money.

Yeah, but didn't most of you pay big buck$ to see sad, nostalga acts like Springsteen and Neil Young?  How is paying $110 to see Springsteen a better bargin than $270 over three days to see about sixty great, relevant bands (except Roger Waters, who hopefully someone will shoot as soon as he croaks "Breathe...")

For once Brian, I agree with you.
And, I am also keeping my fingers crossed Rogers Waters gets shot mid-performance.

because watered down classic rock with added eye-liner is so much more interesting...
