Most Disappointing/Underwhelming Show of 2007 That You A

Explosions in the Sky - This doesn't really fall to the level of a "worst" show, because I still had a pretty good time. However, it was not very memorable or exciting.

Tie between Yo La Tengo at Sonar and Dylan at Merriweather.

YLT were fine, but the show was ruined by a really disrespectful crowd and horrible sound.

I did Dylan from the lawn due to having my daughter there, and the show really did not translate well from distance.

Secret Machines at the RnR Hotel was the most disappointing, since their shows can be sublime.

Whatever the band was between Gallows and Bad Religion was the worst band I've seen in years.

But still, nothing will ever top The Dude of Life, who somehow got a headline gig at the old 9:30.

I could see Explosions in the Sky being boring, but I saw them at a hometown festival in November and they were incredible. Very high-energy and rocking.

The Decemberists at Bonnaroo as I left midway through their set with the mindset of totally being over them as band. Admittedly, the heat didn't help but the part of the set I endured consisted of The Mariners Song, The Tain and the Crane Wife 3.  Apparently, I should have stuck it out because eventually Mavis Staples came out for a cover "The Weight", the did Chimbley and an off the cuff cover of The Smiths "Ask".

Turns out that this was the bands "Festival Fuck-You List", in which they felt they should present their most inappropriate set of tunes possible. Kinda wanted them to go the other route with the upbeat tunes.  I was all set to get the band a second chance at one of those "Short Of It shows"

Also, bailed very quickly on Lily Allen at the Roo  when it was fairly obvious to me, that the parts of the songs where she sings sounded an awful like  the multi-tracked vocals that are on her record. Yet there were no backup singers...

I think I'm glad I didn't go to that Secret Machines show.  Their gig at the Black Cat a couple of years back is still one of the best I've ever seen.  I imagine the new guitarist just can't hack it?

Wow, the Dude of Life.  That must have been right after his disc with Phish came out.

"cant hack it" is an understatement...it seemed as if they had pulled him out of the crowd to come up and "jam"...awful show.  left after 4 songs.

That would easily be mine, and my expectations were low going it.  All I asked was for "Starla" (which I got and it was great) and "Rocket" (which was a shitty, watered-down acoustic version).

When only have of your expectations are met, and then you endure a 3-hour long version of a song you've never heard, things so south quickly.

Honestly, I'd say the Stars show at the 9:30 Club (2007/10/20). It wasn't bad at all; it just felt long and I was a little underwhelmed by their performance.

not many of the openers i saw this year really grabbed me... Emma Pollock and Johnossi are about the only ones that were really remarkable.

The worst opener I saw by far was that horrid band of New York Dolls wannabee's at that Stooges show.     Another one of those bands playing dress up.  Nico Vega on the Shout Out Louds show was a pretty wretched version of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Saw Albert Hammond Jr the night of the Iggy show and  was completely bored, it honestly felt like a band practicing.

Kaiser Chiefs/Walkmen

The Walkmen seemed a little bored by their own set and the Kaiser Chiefs, even with all of the energy, came off as cheesier than the first time I saw them.  If I remember correctly though, this was only a couple of days after The Stooges so most things would have paled in comparison.

I can't think of any shows that were disappointing or underwhelming. Mind you, I didn't go to more than a dozen. It's just great to be a Dad and still get to go to a show now and then! The only disappointment is that I can't take my girls to most shows.
