Q: In what world are Ben Folds Five albums considered "obligatory" in a top albums of the 1990's list?

A: In "crazy, myopic scenester girl" world?

What a great list of albums you all bought in the 2000's you've all created.  You might as well add the Beta Band's 3 EP's to your list before it gets simply diregarded as not "insightful" enough.

Those of you that were alive in the 90's really bought (and played the hell out of):

 Pearl Jam - 10
Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual
 Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Sessions
Counting Crows - August and Everything After...
 Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
 Fugees - The Score
REM - Automatic for the People
Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory
 The Verve - Urban Hymms
 U2 - Auchtung Baby

And because I'm from So Cal I'll also readily admit to also playing the hell out of...

 Social Distortion - Social Distortion
 No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
 Dr. Dre - The Chronic

OK seriously here's what I really rocked most in the 90's, that actually came out in that decade.  I'm keeping this this list down to stuff I was actually listening to in the 90's, keeping off stuff that may have come out then that went undiscovered until later.  Making this list makes me realize 2 things - Much of what I now consider great from the 90's I did not turn on too until the 00's, and also that the 80's were a much better time for music.

 Breeders - Pod
 Smashing Pumkins - Gish
 Pixies - Doolittle
Thee Hypnotics - Come Down Heavy
Shudder to Think - Pony Express Record
Mazzy Star - So Tonight that I Might See
Cop Shoot Cop - Ask Questions Later
Nirvana - Never Mind, In Utero
 Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
Sunny Day Real Estate  - S/T
 Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin
 Fugazi - Repeater
 Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentleman
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads, Henry's Dream

Time for this board to admit it, it's 75% old fogeys.  Being born in 1990 makes one 18 years old.  Prime time of life for being hardcore into a young and vibrant music scene and going to lots of concerts and being right there in the pit for the experience (as opposed to trying to find a happy medium between proximity to the bar and best spot for sound quality).

i dont think the old folks on this board shy away from their gen-x-edness ... and i'd say the board was much older a few years ago
