i'd add "porcupine" and the s/t 1987 for echo and the bunnymen, too. they are all pretty great. or you can just get "songs to learn and sing" if you wanna go the greatest hits way.

exploding hearts - guitar romantic (must must must have)

electrelane - no shouts no calls (or axes. or the power out. but you probably only "need" one)

explosions in the sky - the rescue (which i prefer to "all of a sudden i miss everyone", but ymmv)

... and if you're in to chillout/downtempo/trippy-and-groovy electronica, hunt down some Entheogenic.  amazing stuff.

FYI, the self-titled Electronic record is flawless in my opinion, as good as anything that New Order ever did. I know that's a bold statement, but it truly has stood the test of time and I still listen to it religiously.
