Honest Strings:A Tribute to the Life and Work of Jack Rose

That's a massive lineup. And it includes two appearances by the forum's own Snailhook.

Hopefully lossless downloads will be available.

I never thought I would say this but MGMT's Congratulations is great! They are a 100% different band now than on that overrated piece of garbage album that was their last. I don't know if it's Sonic Boom or their more psychedelic influences or a combination of both but this album is a total revamp of their sound.

There's probably one or two people out there who agree with you, somewhere.  :P

I found a couple of guilty pleasure songs on the first one, but the new one is unlistenable. I'm sure pitchfork will give it a 9.2, then a plethora of other people will agree with you.

Why is it that I find a single Teenage Fanclub track more engaging then entire albums by Goldfrapp, Frighten Rabbit and the Watson Twins.  Guess old age and the grump really truly is setting in...  And I'm also not really buying into Free Energy, despite the fact it's being touted as 70's power pop, it just sounds forced and manufactured....

And take it from me avoid at all costs Young and Devine, imagine the worst possible pop-punk with autotuned vocals, and cheesy synths.

Um, maybe because you're a power pop freak?

I do like that TF track, but I also like the Watson Twins album quite a bit. I loved Midnight Organ Flight, but the new Frightened Rabbit is a little too slick. I liked the previous Goldfrapp album, but not this one.

Power Pop freak or not, I'm finding less and less new rock music that's worth listening to more than once..

The Owen Pallett album is pleasant but I am having a hard time justifying paying $15 to see him.

David Byrne's new album is streaming on NPR. You can even stream the individual tracks without having to listen to the whole thing.

Vocalists include: St. Vincent, Shara Worden, Martha Wainwright, Nicole Atkins, Sharon Jones, Tori Amos, and Santigold.

Speaking of Sharon Jones, her new one leaked a few days back.

As did Alcest.

^ I've heard it and was completely aghast! Had mixed feelings too. Beautiful Alcest instrumentation... and then Neige starts 'singing', for lack of a better word. He's back into his hard-edged Dark Metal mode. Lots of distant and horrific screamo. So sad because, without the vocals, this would be a nice album. The man can sing but, unfortunately, he chooses to scream on this release instead of sing.

There is one good song and that's the last one. No vocals.

File it under: Buyer Beware

On the other hand,

The Brothers Movement - "The Brothers Movement"

is pretty decent.

Imagine the more ballady side of Jason Pierce joining Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club or The Black Ryder and making a few songs influenced by either Chad & Jeremey or Peter & Gordon, sort of spaced out a little, but for the new millenium. All the good parts of that as it all works pretty nicely.
