Try getting on a list somewhere in advance next year.

I got on the list at a couple of places in advance, and they kindly called me when they got some in. I actually had to turn them both down since my wife had already grabbed two 4 packs, and how much fo the stuff do you really need...

I can't find KBS anywhere. Rodman's and Chevy Chase were sold out. Found out they were serving bottles at The Black Squirrel only to find out they ran out before I got there.

Blergh.

so i went to my local "beershop" . . . which is a "country store" that (some random cuss word) rules.  there i found their last 12 six packs of this beer i kept hearing about, nugget nectar.  sure, why not, i'll try it.  took two.  first one i drank from the bottle.  thought it was horrible.  waste of money.  second one the next day, poured it into a proper beer drinking glass and it was nice.  after four more, they were delightful.

but what i really want to know, is that they had some founders selections, which i know nothing about besides i worship (by accidental trying) "backwoods bastard."  which others from founders should i try that will sway me over?

Founders is my favorite all around brewery. There's really nothing they are weak on, imo.

They're especially known for their seasonal stouts: Breakfast Stout, KBS, Founders Imperial Stout, and Canadian Breakfast Stout. Good luck at finnding any of those right now though. Their porter is easy to find, and it's my favorite porter.

Centenial (IPA), Red Rye PA, and Dirty Bastard (a milder version of Backwoods Bastard, sort of) are all excellent too and available year round.

You can also catch the excellent seasonal Double Trouble (DIPA) now.

Has anyone tried Southern Tier's Creme Brulee Stout? I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. This was draft; can't vouch for the bottles.

Yeah, the Fairfax store has numerous taps throughout the store and an upstairs wine bar. They also sell growlers.

The Fairfax Wegman's is joining the fray by adding a bar in their 'wine cellar'. Unfortunately they were installing Dogfish Head taps today. Kinda silly with the amount of Tröegs they're stocking and the fact there's a Dogfish brewpub a few miles away.

Firestone Walker is having a 'DC Launch' next week with stuff at Churchkey and Black Squirrel. Seems a little late since the Paradiso spots have had kegs for a few months. Hopefully Double Jack casks are involved.

Embarrasingly, I jogged right by the Great Divide Tap Room the last time I was in Denver and didn't even know enough about it to know it was a place I should go to.

I did go to an excellent Belgian beer bar called the Cheeky Monk while I was there.

i was in a celebratory mood yesterday and went on a beer shopping binge.  drank last night:

strange brew.  the spice, grape and wood tastes really take over, to the point where one might forget that this is beer.  interesting but not sure i'd buy it again.  spendy too - $12 for a big bottle.

another weird spicy number.  i'm a fan of belgian beer, especially witbier, so i had high hopes for this one.  it was damn tasty but the pungent herb-y smell was a bit much by the end of the bottle.  very thick mouthfeel (just learned that word).  i'll be keeping my eye out for the darker "blue" version.

i'm not very familiar with bell's, but i do love me some wheat beer and based on popular opinion of this brewery i figured i couldn't go wrong here.  anyone tried this?  i was going to try one tonight but the crap weather is putting me in a dark beer mood.

the store mentioned that this beer contained a touch of honey.  online reviews claim that this beer ages well, so it might sit in the cellar for a while.
