Sour extravaganza at ChurchKey:

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014 brings the ninth edition in our series!

For this occasion, we will be tapping a hyper-rare keg from inimitable Brasserie Cantillon: Fou? Foune! This exceptional beauty is a blend of Cantillon-brewed lambics aged 2 years in oak barrels with Bergeron apricots.

We also got our hands on a Zymatore series brew, matured and soured in the USA by B. United Imports: Birra Del Borgo 25 Dodici aged in Ransom Gin and Pinot Noir barrels.

Other offerings for this session: a new brew from LoverBeer called Baciami Lipsia (an Italian sour ale inoculated with Lactobacillus & brewed with Himalayan pink salt) & Beer Brugna (a Flanders Red Ale brewed with Damaschine plums); Sante Adairius & Evil Twin Joey Pepper (a Belgian blond ale brewed with white peppercorns & spiked with Brettanomyces clausenii) & Evil Twin Femme Fatale Yuzu (a 100% Brettanomyces-fermented IPA with yuzu fruit); from England, The Wild Beer Co has sent us a keg of Modus Operandi (a Flanders Red Ale aged in bourbon barrels with Brettanomyces).

We will also have some now classic German tart brews: Bayerischer Bahnhof Leipziger Gose, 1809 Berliner Weisse from Professor Fritz Briem, and Original Ritterguts Gose.

There is no admission fee for this event and all Sour Session drafts will be priced individually in 4 oz. tasters and full glass pours.

The Sour Session Volume 9 Draft List:

Cantillon Fou? Foune
Evil Twin Femme Fatale Yuzu

Drinking some Schwabenbraeu VolksfestBier.   Good Marzen style beer.

Had the Austrian Beer Kapsreiter LandBier.  This stuff is truly heaven on earth.   Its a Pilsner.  James Ford might like it as it is sold in a resealable bottle so he won't have to drink it all at once.

Drank some Fat Tire Spring Blonde which was rather tasty.

And then drank some Flying Dog Lucky SOB a decent Irish Red Ale.

I had a vodka soda with a lemon twist followed by two more soda waters with lemon twists. It was delightful.

Is your continued referring to New Belgium Brewing as "Fat Tire" designed to be funny, or to demonstrate your ignorance?

Do you also refer to Union Craft as "Duckpin", or Heavy Seas as "Loose Cannon"?

When will everyone realize atomic doesn't know what he's talking about in basically every thread?

Neither a simple mistake.  Do you ever actually discuss beer?  I talk about all the beers I drink and you never once say oh I had that too and enjoyed it with some crabs.

I have not had that beer. If I see it, maybe I'll check it out.

I did have an awesome German beer last week. It was a gose.

Splitting a bomber of Three Floyds Arctic Panzer Wolf tonight. Pairing with the chili I'm prepping now. 11 oz of 9% DIPA, living on the edge man.

Listening to Gil Scott-Heron as I make the food. Good times.

Gose sounds interesting.  I will have to see if my local store carries it.

Let me know if you find anything.

They had some  gose beers (from American breweries if I recall) on draft at Max's sour day of the Belgian beer fest and at a sour event at Churchkey (from German breweries), both of which I attended. However, i'm not familiar with any sold regionally in bottles.

And when they call it a "sour", it's all relative. It's a lot less sour than some of those Belgian pucker beers.
