So a local new brewery wins gold at World beer cup

Has anyone been to Crooked Run yet

Leesburg is just such a hike :(

The wins by Lost Rhino and Crooked Run were part of a good night for the Old Dominion: Devils Backbone won gold medals for Schwartz Bier and Reilly's Red Ale, and Pale Fire Brewing took bronzes for its Salad Days Saison and Red Molly Irish Red Ale. Lickinghole Creek won a silver medal for Coconut Delight, its "Coconut Infused Rum Barrel Aged Belgian-Style Quadrupel Ale"; Hardywood took a bronze for Ruse, an imperial milk stout aged in red-wine barrels; and Norfolk's O'Connor Brewing won bronze for its O'Connor's Dry Irish Stout. Virginia won the fifth-most medals of any state

VA is becoming quite the beer state...just wish more of it was inside the beltway!

Help me please beer friends-

I've got a clamp down stainless steel growler.  I had it filled at Aslin and wasn't able to use for 8 or 9 days.  To my dismay, it was good but not anything like I had at their place in Herndon.  Do I typically need to drink it within 2 or 3 days to get the most out of it?

I don't have a fancy growler like that, but one of the guys at Aslin told me the quality is best if you drink it within 2-3 days of getting it filled.

Based on my personal history of drinking their beer over the past few months, that liquid needs to either be drank on premise or pretty darn quickly after it being pour in a crowler/growler. I did drink a two week old crowler last week and it was delicious, however, a few weeks before that I drank maybe a 5 day old crowler and it was pretty bad.

oxygen is the enemy of beer.  beer in fermentors, brite tanks, kegs, bottles and cans are in an O2-free enviro.  when filling bottles, the bottle is purged with CO2 before being filled.  (aside: cans are very rarely flushed first - takes a super-high-end machine to do this - so the beer is exposed to O2 before being sealed.  but once sealed, no O2 can get in - vs. bottles that start with almost no O2 but some will eventually creep in because crown caps aren't perfect seals).

as soon as beer is exposed to oxygen, it starts to degrade.  during a growler fill the beer is exposed to a lot of O2 so the clock starts ticking as soon as it's filled.  2 or 3 days is the standard answer you'll get for "how soon should i drink it", but the real answer is "as soon as possible, ideally right away."

Dinner is their only must have beer. I think it's brewery only.

Another One is very good. Some people like it better than Lunch, though I don't. The porter and stout....meh.

I would also throw in A Tiny Beautiful Something, it's very good.

i'd check it out.  based on what i've read, WoB sounds like a chill sports bar with a great beer selection.  nice that it's so close to the movie theater, sounds like date night to me.
