Never heard of them. Is their emphasis on the beers or the venue?

unsure, asking this group.

Their overall average beer score on Untappd is 3.67 (out of 5). By comparison, DC Brau has a 3.67, Union Craft in Baltimore has a 3.77, Troeggs (also in Hershey) has a 3.79, Dogfish Head has a 3.84, and Other Half (multiple locations including DC) has a 4.23.

I see that Jack Johnson wannabe motherfucker Hiss Golden Messenger is playing at the same location. You should take the wife up Space, can probably get there quicker than going down I95 for a show.

I was actually eyeing the Old 97's show there yesterday, without realizing it was the same place Challenged was asking about. The beer average is similar (Strangeways is 3.7), but Hershey is 2:23 from me with no traffic, which is still quite a bit more than a drive to Fredericksburg.

Is there a Mendoza line for brewery scores? DC Brau and Union may not be top shelf but both have very good beers in their line up. Just gotta avoid the ones that suck.

Solid info; thanks. I think we will go to this show and try the beer, and report back. Wait around 65 days and I will let you know.

They both produce a fair share of unpopular beer styles, which tend to get lower ratings. Breweries that stick mostly to hazies, pastries, and fruities are going to naturally get higher ratings.

That said, the mediocre score for Strangeways is right on the money.

my new fav.  had been trying to find a British Mild Ale and found this at mylhbs and was very happy and would buy again

Judging a brewery on their avg Untapped score is like judging a band on how many shows they did on a tour...

Edited to say I agree with Space, particularly about Strangeways.

A brewery’s bottom line score isn’t a good indicator by itself. A brewery can belt out really solid stuff but also suck at others. Just stick to the good stuff.

Wheatfield is prominently displayed in this month’s issue of Imbibe magazine. Good for them!

That might have a kernel of truth if they adjusted the scores up based on quantity of reviews, but I don't think that's the case with Untappd.

If you're comparing beer ratings with music numbers, perhaps overall Untappd scores are analagous to overall Metacritic scores for an artist.

In those situations, wine is the answer.
