From field to glass, American beer is vulnerable to the varied effects of a changing climate. Nevertheless, creative thinkers are making American beer resilient, responsive, and environmentally and socially sustainable.
Join us for a conversation that I will moderate with:
Andrea Stanley, founder of Valley Malt in Holyoke, Massachusetts, which is creating a local malting supply chain for New England farms, breweries, and distilleries; working with grain varieties that improve soil and water; and sourcing 100% renewable hydroelectric power.
Victoria Garza, Latin America Sales Manager at Yakima Chief Hops in Yakima, Washington, and co-founder of the annual “Sesiones del Migrante” beer collaboration, which honors the labor and expertise of migrant Mexican hop workers in the Pacific Northwest.
Denise Ford-Sawadogo, co-owner of Montclair Brewery in Montclair, New Jersey, whose beers feature a rich range of ingredients–many drawn from Denise and her husband Leo’s West African and Caribbean heritages—including fonio, sorghum, baobab, and hibiscus, which are well adapted to warmer climates.
Morgan Owle-Crisp, co-owner of 7 Clans Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina, whose woman-owned and Cherokee-owned brewery’s beers are rooted in Cherokees’ harmonious relationship with their homeland and feature ingredients such as cornmeal, sassafras, honeynut squash, muscadine grapes, and chestnut.
