steve makes points that were maybe relevant 20 years ago. in 2010 it sounds like a needless shot to me. still like him though

Albini is a pretty limited producer: drums way up in the mix, vocals buried, bass either overboard or non-existent. Little bands use him as a producer because he is a "name" and big bands such as Bush, Robert Plant and the Manic St Preachers use him as a punk-rock novelty and then never use him again because he can only do one thing and because he's a dick.

And his music wasn't all that great either. Big Black did have influence, but it too was limited and really only had an effect on people like Reznor and Jourgeson who then took it to the masses. And Shellac kinda sucks too. Live at Action Park was cool at first but has no depth, and no one listens to any other Shellac album.

And he's a stupid jerk who never responded to the birthday card I spent a really really long time on.

Albini is a smart and talented guy who got lost up his own ass.

Quite frankly, I've never liked any of his work but always gave him the benefit of the doubt that it was just not to my taste. Still think that way and also very much agree with Relaxer that it's extremely limited in scope.

His rants are often pretty good but the old fart seems to have turned into and old curmudgeon.

He's old and delusional. Don't mind him.

Everyone knows that the best Shellac album is 1000 Hurts.

Excellent Italian Greyhound has some of their best individual tracks but I find that it kind of falls off hard in the second half.

Love Shellac.  I like all their albums, actually, but do agree about Italian Greyhound.  Plus, they are awesome live.

Like Big Black too.
