as far as "albums" and not compilations go, Technique is a masterpiece.

the first Electronic LP is as good as Technique. One of my desert island discs.

I am thinking that the New Order show at MPP might end up being the most boring show of all time.  Saw them twice as an opener at MPP in the 80's and they were perhaps the most boring shows of the 80's.  I can't imagine they have gotten any more exciting since then.

And I can't imagine them being headliners.  When they couldn't headline in their prime.

What if the lumineers opened up for them and joined in with them for some songs?

joy division/new order are the most important band of the past 35 years so i'd cut them a bit of slack

only if you think they are.  i personally think the dead kennedys fit that honour.

well somebody always influenced somebody but i think New order is the tipping point.. i think they took Kraftwerk's wacky innovations and mainstreamed them... but I'm sure some people might point to Moroder or even say that it wasnt as much neworder as say Arthur Baker.... I think neworder's sound has become so mainstream that they are ignored..kind of like say chuck berry... but when you listen to 1983s power corruption and lies (plus blue monday) i hear everything that came during that decade and the next on the dancefloor..well i hear the seeds at least..

on top of that you add joy division's stuff and wow just wow...

in any case, though i long ago stopped listening to them (who can listen to the same stuff decade after decade?) they were a really big band for me...and Sumner's voice is comfort food for me.... he could - and sometimes i think might as well- read the phone book (some of his lyrics are so so trite) and I'd dig it.

from the evidence i've seen and read its pretty clear they are not the greatest live act but wow what a body of work....good lord.
