rock and roll hall of fame
« on: January 08, 2004, 11:25:00 pm »
anyone been? they've extended the u2 exhibit to the end of february and i'm tempted to go check it out. i meant to go last year but never made it. i know cleveland can't be overly exciting. but southwest flies there and its a fairly inexpensive city so i'm pondering popping over there for the weekend.

It is only a 5-6 hour drive from here.

Been there, saw the U2 exhibit, it is neat but to me not really what I would want to see of them.  Had a bunch of their outfits, some albums, and other stuff but no guitars or the like (that I remember seeing). I warn you, the exhibit is in the one freaky part of the museum if you are afraid of heights.  It is high in the peak of the place and the stairs extend over an empty space about 3 stories high.

Still the rest of the museum is well worth the visit, lots of great memories, some cool films, and the original lyrics sheet for "Walk this way" is right outside the bathrooms...

I went to the U2 exhibit over the summer.  Its pretty cool if you are a U2 nerd.  I think a casual fan would not be very interested.  There are a lot of just letters, and fliers from their early days, as well as outfits and such.  They also have a theater that shows their concert videos.  I was hoping that they'd be showing Rattle and Hum while i was there, but i had to settle for the Zoo TV in Sydney vid..which is pretty cool too.  The rest of the museum is pretty interesting as well.  Cleveland isn't bad either...hit up some dive bars and eat some fattening food.

I thought the coolest thing at the Cleveland RnR Hall of Fame was the bass that was smashed on the cover of London Calling.

I think i'd get bored after seeing the second guitar or drum set.

I'd like to go and check it out, not necessarily just for U2; that, and the Experience Music Project museum in Seattle.

Nah, they have so many really cool things.  The one negative is that you can not take photographs.  Still so many killer displays (including Brittney Spears outfits) I loved it.  To me the greatest was the Pete Townshend Hiwatt 1/2 stack.  That amp looked heavy used and made so much great music.

Since they have the outfits on maniquins you can see how small some of these singers are.
