Sweets, I'd usually agree with your point but I find it hard to believe Frank "milquetoast sad lament soccer mom rock" Turner at any point liked hardcore and then somehow still turned into the steaming pile of vanilla made-for-Starbucks-impulse-buy blandness he constitutes.

Killsaly's pics are great.  Thanks for posting them.

I really didn't like Red Death at all.  Their lp is ok but they were a let down.

Angie Dust was a bore.

Barreracudas was the worst of the weekend, tho. Definitely cheesy, even tho the crowd ate it up.

The pacing of the fest was really smooth. Shame they ran out of the $3 IPAs.

So Frank Turner was great, crowd was enthusiastic as usual
and Seth was spotted in the VIP balcony for most of the show (so suck it all you FT haters)

They were taping for something too, so possible life performance video possible?

Tons of shout outs to DC and the 930 club
He mentioned when he was a kid and being in to Hardcore and all the DC bands (MT/fugz/BB) and whenever he told someone in England (in the late 90's) that he was in to hardcore.  They thought of two things: really bad EDM music (happy hardcore) or porn.

Great selection across his whole catalog with a lot of rare gems as well as a number off the new album.

Closed the night with a fantastic 'song for josh' and many of the staph were teary-eyed

Great show, indeed.
Thanks for posting the pics.

I assure you, there was no "look how awesome" intended. I just had seen some really bad form snarking earlier in the thread and wanted to give some instruction on how one properly snarks. Sadly, much of the board sees the example of Rhett and GGW who do nothing but snark despite being completely terrible at it.

What you said sounded more like regurgitation to me than snark. As in you were just stating what I'm sure every critic of Frank Turner thinks. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My point was that lots of artists do shows and bring up their youthful love for Minor Threat. Heck, that poor nerd Murry Hammond from Old 97's is so desperate to connect with the DC crowd,  he brings it up EVERY FREAKING TIME THEY PLAY HERE!

So what was Sidehutch's point in bringing it up? Was it the fact that Turner mentioned porn (oooh, so edgy!) in his banter, hence adding a new dimension to the well-worn cliche'?

Well, I'm not going to disagree with that at all. Fair point.

to his credit, GGW's snarking has been top form lately.  It can only go downhill from here

"The sound I?m going for is Bruce Springsteen by way of Sick Of It All." Frank Turner

I disagree it's soccer mom rock. Certainly not for everyone, but it's powerful to be in a packed 930 club a he asks everyone to sit down...and every single person in the whole club sits down.  I can only say for me, I think it's an awesome feeling to be in a room where everyone knows and is psyched to hear every song old or new.  He has some punk rock cred with Millions Dead and Mongrel Hoard, so he's not some pretty boy the label just made up to fit a list of criteria.  The man is a machine too, doing an average of 170+ shows a year for 10 years!  He always comes out after the shows to hang with the fans and is really involved with his fan base on his Forum and "Snapgrab or what ever you kids are using today"

New album aside, he really has some great lyrics that are original and not boiler plate stadium rock ala Train
