One primarily for the guitar gearheads, but worthy of a watch for the casual listener...

Stumbled upon a electroacoustic harpist named Emily Hopkins who runs her harp which has pickups inside it through guitar effects pedals, i.e. wha wha, distortion the lot...

anyways Emily now gets pedals all the time to evaluate including recently a Talk Box which is that effect with the tube made famous by Zapp, Frampton,

This video is a fun watch because when she unboxes the Talk Box she has no idea what to make of it

https://youtu.be/U4gTTFNgUkY

also worth the watch another recent one involving putting a whammy bar on her harp

https://youtu.be/dPhGVsh2GRU

I'll definitely check these out later.

I'm pretty sure Zapp used a vocoder instead of a talkbox. Or did Roger used both?

Based on this Roger/Zapp was running his synth through a voice box, also a seriously fun interview..

Definitely proved me wrong. I guess I was thrown by him using it through a synth instead of guitar.

The word “legacy” is doing some heavy lifting here.

I bet the cracks, pops and scratches on his vinyl collection sound amazing.

America at the Crossroads: The GUITAR and a Changing Nation

The new exhibition, America at the Crossroads: The GUITAR and a Changing Nation looks at America’s evolution through the lens of its most popular instrument. The exhibit displays forty instruments that serve as touchpoints to connect visitors with significant moments in America’s history and culture—from the earliest Spanish invasion to the nation’s modern status as a global superpower. The artifacts are supplemented with video, photographs, and illustrations that depict important events, artists, and instruments of the last century. This touring exhibition from the National GUITAR Museum is making its national debut at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.

January 27, 2023 - May 28, 2023

I understand they have a signed "Lucille" and a Gibson Harp Guitar.

Other tour stops:

Museum Of Science & History / Memphis, TN: June 10 – October 23, 2023
Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience / Meridian, MS: February – April 2024
The California Museum / Sacramento, CA: May – September 2024

I'm going to say right now, the 80s had an astonishing amount of sax solos...that you probably remember well
then it just kind of fell off a cliff after that

Can you remember a sax solo in the last 30 years??

the 80s, I bet you could name 10 right now and would be shocked at the 20 or more you forgot

80s were truly peak sax

For sure…it was a nice throwback to the early roots of rock and roll

The piano and sax were critical in early rock and roll but fell away when Chuck Berry mainstreamed the guitar…some say he took Johnnie Johnson’s piano licks and applied them to the guitar
