1st 5 albums flawless.  After that a steady spiral downward.

If you loved ‘college rock’ R.E.M., Shiny Happy People (and Stand before it) and the goofy showman persona big label Stipe took on (and the new fanbase) were impossible to process . . .but Shiny Happy People really is a great song . . .and with a few tweeks really wouldn’t be out of place on Life’s Rich Pageant.

I swear to god that shiny happy people and stand are two songs that make me want to blow my head off.

What’s the frequency Kenneth is not far behind…

Also Radio Song …Losing my religion…even Everybody Hurts (I will concede this one is a good song but…)

Oh man now Man on the moon is in my head

Man they drove me crazy in the 90s….they were everywhere the first half or so of the decade

Didn’t they combine with U2 for a nightmare supergroup?? Shudder…nah can’t be..must have been a nightmare I had…automatic baby

Oh and that horrible to sir with love with natalie

God . . . I love a REM rant. In high school,  when hormones were controlling my every move, REM was such a structural box of isolation and independence to fall into. Then, the band changed direction and became old men who force positive emotions to cover up the sadness; like, we all do.

Once again... The victims of late 80s/early 90s shove it down your throat MTV songs, probably made more haters than fans. Had I not heard those 5 songs hutch mentioned every single fuckin' day for 4 years, people would be siginin' a different tune(no pun intended).

It wasn’t just that…I went to college in early 90s and owning and playing the shit out of U2 and REM CDs was like a uniform at my university. You went to frat row and they blasted Superman and End of the world every damn time. It wears and burns you out.

Not saying they didn’t have great songs but no I was never a huge fan. I just never loved them…not even the IRS stuff. My roommate for three years played them all the time.

There’s definitely some amazing songs after the first five records but this is essentially how I think of REM.

Here is the Belle & Sebastian and Coldplay crossover event no one had on their cards

We were mastering our 4th lp, and being picky about it. Frank, the engineer apologised and said he needed 15 minutes at lunchtime to master someone else’s single. He put it on, and immediately the guy from our label said
‘What is this fucking cock?

I thought it was pretty good.
I don’t think anyone in the room would have picked it for a hit though. The people spoke, it was Yellow by Coldplay.

Whole bunch of AI tech bros are about to find out one doesn’t mess around with major label record company lawyers…

The majors have sued Suno and Udio for  infringement "on an almost unimaginable scale."

Be forewarned that this post includes examples of “stellar” AI created songs

Fairly certain even Green Day wouldn’t use “ The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.”  as the chorus of a song..

Correct -- this is smarter than all of their lyrics from American Idiot onward.
