so I don't think it's about MLK (or you for that matter)
I've been at a number of firms that do the holiday party for the staff in Jan, because December is usually filled with tons of Client and Vendor parties as well as family commitments to parties

Quote
I hope they do it on my telework day.
man you must be at fun at work as you are on this board

Without going into details, I don't work at a "firm", December is usually quieter work-wise than January, and I'm not sure how family commitments have anything to do with having a holiday work party at lunchtime during the first two weeks of December.

I know, you work for trump (indirectly, but still sucking off the gvmt teat)...so you want our tax dollars to pay for your fancy office party

I've worked in the same office for 20 years. We've ALWAYS paid out of our own pockets for 100% of any parties, be they at a restaurant, or in-house. (Unlike my wife, who works in private industry and it always getting free meals from her employer) There's all kinds of rules in place to prevent "sucking from the gvmt teat."

I think you're missing my point that it sucks having a bunch of cheapass, boring co-workers who would rather sit in a drab seminar room eating each other's casseroles than going to a nice DC restaurant on their own dime.

We have shuttered our "Christmas" party in favor of a "year recap awards gala" in February for similar reasons.

It's all about taking Christ out of Christmas, isn't it? Just paving the way for the Sharia law your grandkids will be living under.

Honestly, it had more to do with extreme drunkeness at the open bar the last two years and a desire to "rebrand" the event altogether to fully divorce us from the spirited bouts of skanko-roman wrestling we saw in the past.

Wow, it must be crazy working in private industry! I can't even go to the craft beer store down the street from me at lunchtime and buy a beer to take home with me because it will set off the x-ray machine that taxpayers spent millions on to prevent terrorism but in reality all it's used for is to enforce the "no alcohol in the building" rules.

I enjoy a good cocktail but the last two years were so insane you would not believe me. People fondling other peoples spouses and getting into fights. A marketer got put into rehab. I’ve never seen anything like it.

How about you just worry about finding some more photos of other people you can pass off as yourself?

back to topic... I went to Kinship last week and it was one of the best meals I've had in DC in a long time. Highly recommended.

Q: Recommendations Near 930 Club
Hi Tom, Wondering if you have a recommendation for dinner spot before an 8 pm show at the 930 club. We’re parents in upper MoCo so we don’t get to DC much and want to make the best of our night out. We’re pretty adventurous but don’t want to break the bank-think less than $150 bill including drinks. We will also be dressed very casually for the show so nothing that will make us feel weird for wearing jeans. A plus if it has a cool beer or cocktail scene. Thanks so much!

A: Tom Sietsema
I've got the perfect spot for you: Hazel, an arty dining room on V St. NW with creative food from chef Rob Rubba. Think sea scallop cakes, barbecued carrots and "sticky crunchy" ribs.

Hazel undoubtedly receives the YSOA and those ribs are killer.

We did Izakaya Seki before New Pornographers a few months ago and would recommend that place in heartbeat, provided you're able to procure a table and have enough time before the show.
