Was on/near the Mall bother earlier this week and today.

The biggest difference? Today, many more Japanese and Midwestern tourist whistling at squirrels to get them to strike a pose for their vacation pictures than there were yesterday.

I feel bad for the tourists.  Totally nonsensical to shut down the government when you know you are paying the employees anyway.  Someone plans a trip to DC and can't see any of the sights?  Anyway:

Although I don't think there'll be another shutdown...we are teetering VERY close on the edge of another one.

In that spirit, here's my 2014 contribution:

It’s sad how stupid democrats are...”I know let’s have a shutdown over illegal immigrants” said nobody ever...I have to believe this will be averted in next few hours or end quickly

Yeah, I wasn't going to get into the whole thing about how DREAMers are NOT illegal, but there's that detail. This shutdown isn't just about DACA. It's about frustration with the process and way that things are dealt with. Sometimes you have to try to use leverage in the instances you are able to. There's no compromises being made right now. Oh, and a bunch of Republicans are on board with reauthorizing DACA, plus not all Republicans are voting to keep the government open. So it ain't all about Democrats, who don't control Congress or the WH.

For both sides. There are no winners here. Americans deserve better.
