How was the show?
Noname tonight. Hopefully tomorrow night's show is still on
Great show. What stage presence! Her music and vocals just float mellifluously. The poetry deals with some tough, sad subjects but there's an overwhelming joy to the vibe (much like Darnielle and the Mountain goats, if you will). The band is tight and espouses a jazzy quality (excellent keyboards and backing vocals). Nice light show as well. She did mention that she wasn't feeling well but her voice was strong. Like the music of the Mountain Goats, Noname's work reaches out to the disenfranchised and gives them a home. However, unlike the Goats' homogenous audience, her audience is extremely diverse. There were all shapes, sizes, colors and sexual orientations present Wednesday night. Of course, I felt like I was the oldest person in the room by about thirty years.
Thanks Seth for bringing this talented, promising young artist (27) to Washington.
...and yes, I know this should have gone in the post show banter thread but I was responding to VD's inquiry.
